I always find it funny how people are so quick to say 'get a laywer and sue so and so'. And we wonder why insurance rates are through the roof lol.

If he was running the OFT when he motor blew, they will say he modified the stock ECU and that the engine was not designed for that. I'm not saying he CANT win, it's just how much is he willing to spend on lawyers ? I think swapping the motor was a better option.

I'm not familiar with that act but I know I would not qualify for the Lemon law because I read something that said I would have needed to bring my car to the dealership atleast three times for the same issues which I didn't do because I hate bringing my car to dealerships.

They didn't say anything to me about modifying the stock ECU but I'm pretty sure they could find out if they really wanted to like for a lawsuit.

Did you strip down the original FA20 and determine the point of failure? Didn't see it mentioned earlier. Curious because I just received my OFT today and this has me weary. Though I don't plan on drifting the car... so there's that.

The law basically states that they have to prove the mod caused the failure. For example, an aftermarket turbo can void your powertrain warranty but if your window stopped working, it would still be covered. I'm not 100% sure but I think the ECU logs when it was flashed. Either way, car looks good!

Always frustrating to see when a car designed for enthusiasts and marketed as such, directed towards enthusiasts and people who enjoy spirited driving get denied for warranty claims when the cars are driven like they're marketed to us...

BUT

Your build is certainly cheaper than a lawsuit - Awesome build!

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but based on the pic of the oil pan you decimated a piston probably from excessive knock, with an aftermarket OFT tune, and youre mad they won't warranty it?

Play games, get prizes.

The good news is the 3SGE looks awesome and swap looks well done. I hope it treats you well!

Good to see you got a fuel cell, if the FA20 failure wasn't from knock it could've been from fuel starve/running lean while drifting

I still have the blown motor in my garage but I haven't opened it up yet.

Never really said I was mad at Toyota for denying warranty but the reason they gave me is kind of stupid.
More frustrated at the OFT because I'm pretty sure that is the reason for the blown engine.
I don't think it was fuel starvation, could've been from running lean due to the tune or lack of flow from the drifting.

I never really liked the FA20 to begin with but decided since it was already in the FRS that I would learn to drift on it and swap at a later date which ended up coming a lot sooner than expected.

I thought they could see when it was flashed too but they didn't mention anything about the ecu other than the "freeze frame" when it died.
I'm sure they could find out if they tried hard enough but I wasn't going to waste my time and money to see if they really could or not.

I'd gamble it was a combination of OFT and lack of oil flow from drifting.

Apparently it's not uncommon for the FA20 to be assembled with too much gasket sealer which can block oil passages.

Your swap is awesome BTW, think I forgot to mention that.
