Have my car for 2 years now. Barely even drive it, only 10k miles within that 2 years span. No problem with it whatsoever. And it's my first manual :P

You'd really recommend a Mazda over a WRX and label it being the "closest you can come," if you need a backseat but want something fun to drive?

I had two models sit in the back seat while I was testing an FRS on Tuesday. Yes, this is the case. One was Puerto Rican, the other German. They both fit in the back and were about 5' 6 or 7". Lol.

I am 5' 7" as well. So, if you want to ride around with two models in their later 20's, BRZ/FRS is a fine and dandy for transportation.

Well sorry, did not consider WRX as it's expensive, well in STI version, and as I read, not as much fun to drive around corners as 86/BRZ, yet possibly more fun to drive than a four door Mazda ??

Maybe the WRX would fulfill the op's needs very well. Quite a good suggestion.

Huge difference in various 5 models of WRX...engine, steering, transmission ratios, 4-wd control systems..gets complicated to pick a model. with base prices varying from 26,700 to 40,000.

But I think you're on the right track, anyway. It's a very well-put-together car.

My kid fits back there but barely. He's 5'8" and about 120 lbs. But that's the limit pretty much. He's very squashed back there and trying to fit a real grown up over 200lbs LOL good luck! But for OP's daughter it should be fine. Just don't feed her any more.

If you realistically want a back seat, get a WRX. I've had mine for two years and love it. If you are expecting your daughter to sit in the back of the BRZ, that's really not fair to her since she won't be comfortable at all.

You had to pay out of pocket for a supercharger on a brand new vehicle?

Expensive? Not really, unless you are fully loading the WRX or going with an STI, which I didn't mention. Base BRZ and base WRX are $1,200 apart. Not that huge of a gap.

Heavy track use since June of 2012, wore out several sets of expensive track tires, replaced a coil due to the header heat, updated coil still going strong. - 100,000 kms.

About the updated coil. I bought a 2014 BRZ and i'm getting it tomorrow, should I be concerned about the coils or was it only for the 13s ? I plan on tracking the car once a week and eventually probably a UEL header.

Ignition coils going bad is a somewhat common thing for people who track their cars. And that's track as in multiple 20 minute HPDE sessions in a day, not a few 50 second AutoX runs. They absorb heat from the block, the header, and whatever else, and eventually go bad. Our engine bays are pretty bad about ventilation, so all that heat buildup has nowhere to go. An uncoated and unwrapped aftermarket header only adds to the heat.

People who track their cars and have had repeated ignition coil failures have noticed that when they vent their hoods and give the heat a path to escape then they no longer have coil issues. Velox and CSG both make venting solutions. If you're really looking at taking your car to a track once a week, adding hood vents or installing a vented hood wouldn't be a bad thing to consider.

The WRX starts at the same price where a S GT Mazda3 stops. And it's significantly more fuel with higher insurance. So it is "expensive." Not that I would put the two in a room together. A WRX would eat a Mazda3 alive.

If someone wanted a light, "fun" sedan I would recommend looking at the Toyota Yaris iA. Since it's a rebadged Mazda2. Not that Cordelia isn't a joy to drive. But if the Scion IA had been out when I needed a car, I wouldn't be driving a Mazda3.

It's not expensive. If you can afford a base BRZ (or in your example a Mazda 3 S GT), then you can afford a base WRX. Yes, it costs more to take home and to keep it on the road, but that's expected. And even at that point, the difference isn't anything significant, especially not if you're comparing those costs for a BRZ and a WRX... let's not pretend like the BRZ is anywhere near as easy on fuel or insurance as the Mazda is.

But now that's a whole different market than the BRZ or even the WRX. But I think people on this forum are also looking for a certain level of performance and sportiness too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the Mazda 3. I actually really like it, and it's a great car that has steering way better than any other of its direct competitors. It's just odd to mention it in this conversation as an alternative to a BRZ if you're looking for the "closest you can come" to combining the experience of a twin but with four doors, as someone else said.

They all come with this silly touchscreen in the center of the dashboard and those stupid HID's, but other than that no problems.

Jesus what kind of groceries are you buying? Are you feeding a large pack of dogs or children? The thing fits a set of 9" wide wheels in the back for crying out loud.

And 4 average sized adults fit just fine in it.
