It isn't so much that they are dumb they just seem that way to the audience for a couple of reasons. We know what is going on but they don't. In the movie horror universes very few people seem to know about horror movies or what to do in those situations. If you had never seen a horror movie and Joe and Jill went off to screw at the summer camp and didn't come back would you not go to look for them? The guy deciding to have a nap in the middle of a supernatural killer's rampage doesn't know all his buddies are hanging from trees nor that there is a giant in a ski mask and holding a machete laying under his bed. We do know so it seems like a dumb move. If rational and effective actions were taken by all movie characters the movies would be very boring and short. If the movie universe has a particular problem then there is probably already a corrective action for it. If there isn't for the first instance then there would be in a hurry so sequels would be really boring. Movie opens. Mary Sue - "Mom, Dad, all the kids on Elm Street have been having dreams about this guy with claws and we are scared he will hurt us" Dad - "Hello Ghostbusters we seem to have a problem with a vengeful ghost. Half an hour? Ok we will keep the kids awake" Movie closes. Total run time 3 minutes.

Sorry but the current polarized tech is definitely a step up from the 50's but it is still an intrusive experience that has a negative effect on the cinematography that outweighs anything it adds. At least some Directors now have stopped feeling they have to "play" to 3D so it movie itself looks more natural. Maybe what I really need is a custom set of 3D glasses. The ones they provide are one size fits some, but definitely do not fit either MomHawk or me. She has a problem where they are too big (she basically has to buy kids off the shelf sunglasses of any price), and for me they are too small and I see the frames which annoys the heck out of me since I don't normally wear glasses. John Cameron has said that his goal is for the Avatar 2 to have a 3D experience that doesn't require glasses. If he figures that out, then I may enjoy it more.

Well, you haven't missed much, although Muppets 3D at Disney is pretty cool, and I did enjoy the Terminator 3D at Universal.
