It isn't so much that they are dumb they just seem that way to the audience for a couple of reasons.

We know what is going on but they don't. In the movie horror universes very few people seem to know about horror movies or what to do in those situations. If you had never seen a horror movie and Joe and Jill went off to screw at the summer camp and didn't come back would you not go to look for them? The guy deciding to have a nap in the middle of a supernatural killer's rampage doesn't know all his buddies are hanging from trees nor that there is a giant in a ski mask and holding a machete laying under his bed. We do know so it seems like a dumb move.

If rational and effective actions were taken by all movie characters the movies would be very boring and short. If the movie universe has a particular problem then there is probably already a corrective action for it. If there isn't for the first instance then there would be in a hurry so sequels would be really boring.

Movie opens.
Mary Sue - "Mom, Dad, all the kids on Elm Street have been having dreams about this guy with claws and we are scared he will hurt us"
Dad - "Hello Ghostbusters we seem to have a problem with a vengeful ghost. Half an hour? Ok we will keep the kids awake"
Movie closes. Total run time 3 minutes.

Lol wut? Everything is better in 3D. Maybe the story sucks maybe not but unless you haven't updated your prescription lens in 5 years 3D>2D. I mean I enjoy 8 bit games sometimes just because of the simplicity but I don't try to pretend the graphics are actually better. I'l pay the extra $2-$5 everytime to see it in 3D. 2D movies can wait for Netflix.

I can't watch"scary" movies either. The few I've seen all had people like running from the killer, thru a kitchen, (no one grabs a knife), then the garage (no one grabs a bat or wrench or anything), then finally someone gets a gun, abandons an open area with good vision even though everyone is in a group for a cramped dark place, then tries to melee attack the psycho... I can't handle it. I start screaming at the tv

Yeah some people have problems with it. Its blurry, or it gives them headaches... For me it's crystal clear as long as long as I wear my regular glasses on underneath.

Given my vision is 20/20, not much need for updating the prescription....

Sorry but the current polarized tech is definitely a step up from the 50's but it is still an intrusive experience that has a negative effect on the cinematography that outweighs anything it adds.

At least some Directors now have stopped feeling they have to "play" to 3D so it movie itself looks more natural.

Maybe what I really need is a custom set of 3D glasses. The ones they provide are one size fits some, but definitely do not fit either MomHawk or me. She has a problem where they are too big (she basically has to buy kids off the shelf sunglasses of any price), and for me they are too small and I see the frames which annoys the heck out of me since I don't normally wear glasses.

John Cameron has said that his goal is for the Avatar 2 to have a 3D experience that doesn't require glasses. If he figures that out, then I may enjoy it more.

See that is just it. If They grab a gun and kill the badguy during the opening credits then it isn't much of a movie now is it? I suppose if we want to make it real life they could of course then make it a legal drama as they fight the manslaughter charges. If you can't extend your suspension of disbelief long enough for a horror movie then how can you possibly watch anime?

I have never seen a 3D movie in my life. Mind you the last time I set foot in a theater was for:

It would be better if you didn't need glasses. Maybe fill the front part of the theatre with smoke and use holograms...

Well, you haven't missed much, although Muppets 3D at Disney is pretty cool, and I did enjoy the Terminator 3D at Universal.

Because anime isn't "realistic" to begin with. It's passed the threshold of "anything goes" so it just doesn't matter anymore. If the protagonist in a horror movie was established as being retarded or having brain cancer at the beginning then maybe if be OK with it. I haven't seen an anime yet where characters made decisions as awful as those in a horror movie
