One of my friends thinks the difference could be the dealers. Perhaps the one you ordered at had already exhausted their allocation for January and February?

The dealer I ordered from is the highest volume dealer in Dallas. When I asked any of the other dealers in Dallas they said I should expect to get my car by the end of February

Definitely possible. I was sort of under the impression that orders don't apply to the regular allocation though, but I'm probably wrong. @Tcoat would possibly know.

Just got updated on my order. BRZ with PP, ordered late September with a von, got the Vin with a delivery date of January 9th.

I'm hoping to pick a BRZ this coming April as a birthday gift for myself.

You guys are making me think I should put in an order now in order to time it right.

Mostly depends on demand. Orders can come out of allocation or be a separate item mostly dependent upon what the dealer decides.

I work at the dealer, so I check our order system myself. I ordered opening day and they had incorrect ETAs for PP's ordered the first few weeks. Mine originally said November, but after talking to them directly they said late Dec/Jan. Its a ball park of 21 days from VIN to arrival for cars from Japan IME.

Also, the ETA of the cars when communicated to customers is "The last week of the promised month". So it could be before your ETA, but don't blame me if it isn't ! ;-)

Also, if you ordered a car from the dealer, they typically will try and pull from allocation first or the dealer network to trade before doing an actual order as that basically puts you at the back of the line. Basically if you "ordered" and got a VIN shortly after, they probably located one for you. There aren't many different builds for these cars so it wouldn't be too hard.
