the vortex generator is meant to cause the fluid boundary layer to become a turbulent boundary layer, keeping it attached to the layer longer before separating.

Idea: if boundary layer remains attached for longer -> reduce drag

Judging by the general construction of chargespeeds vortex generators they appear to be purely cosmetic additions.

I wouldn't either, I'm going to wait for the fiberglass version to come out next year. Hopefully it'll be a quarter of the price.
