The issue with the FB oil pan is the size. No one has verified that FR header will fit over it. It was designed for their headers. Blitz makes an oil pan with a return line welded and it looks like in this right place but no one has verified that. The oil lines are setup specifically for you to weld an AN fitting to your pan. So there are options but YMMV. Lots of people run front mount turbos with no real issues. Your AC can suffer in extreme climates and an oil cooler is recommended for extreme use (heavy track).

That makes sense. I've been researching this kit and I really like what it has to offer. I'm just not a fan of having to weld a fitting on/cutting into the radiator support. I would definitely get an oil cooler when I go forced induction.

I agree. The cutting isn't optimal. There are some solutions out there that don't require that but I still feel this kit has some of the best tech and response around. Lots of options out there though!

Sorry for all the questions, I appreciate the help though. Is there any performance gain or engineering reason for the intercooler piping to come out the top forcing you to cut the support beam as opposed to an intercooler like the ptuning one or a universal mishimoto? Just curious haha. The twin scroll turbo is my favorite part about this kit and I'm having trouble justifying any other kit besides ptuning.

I have no had any issues overheating currently with the kit even in stop and go traffic with 120 degree ambient Phoenix heat. No issues at the 1/2 mile event I've been at either. We run our radiator and hood louvers though, but I'm sure other radiators could work as well.

I (Velox Motorsports) offer to weld the fitting on if you send me the oil pan. The radiator support needs very little trimming which can quickly be done with sheet metal shears. It really is not bad and ensures the charge piping doesn't bang on the support.

The intercooler piping is designed to be as short as possible. This helps response and power. Reducing the number of bends reduces pumping losses and less area to fill with pressure, increases response. Again, when you actually get in there and take the tiny bit of the support out that you do, you'll see how it's not a big deal at all .

Thanks,
Eric

I'm so pumped to get this kit. Should be putting an order through within a few weeks. Finally decided on going with the 7163 .80.
I love these new Borgwarner turbos. Truly next level tech.

They really are the next level technology in turbos. They're used on the vast majority of OEMs and strictly race vehicles for a reason .

I don't see why it wouldn't. There's quite a bit of space between op/fp and the manual trans. To my knowledge this kit hasn't been installed on auto, yet .

@Joeyk Did you route both of your coolant lines up? It looks like FR shows pictures of it routing down under the turbo towards the radiator side, but it looks like it would be dangerously close to the exhaust manifold. I'm guessing that's why you routed yours over the top of the turbo? Also, did you use any special tools to tighten the turbo bolts? I'm not sure exactly how to get to those back ones to properly torque them down.

@VeloxEric thanks a lot for the thread, I wasn't even aware borg wargner was doing turbine for the consumer aftermarket, I always thought they did partner only with manufacturer and racing team. I do love the one that came stock on my car :-)

I have a few question for you. Does the kit come or could work with UEL header? Also, not completely related but nice to know would you be able to help me out with this question?

Thanks a lot.

Route the coolant lines in a fashion that makes the most sense and avoids close proximity to the exhaust manifold and turbine housing. Tightening some of the nuts is difficult, I used wrenches primarily.

The kit that we recommend is twin scroll, and an UEL manifold will reduce performance. The manifold Full-Race designed and produce is very good, and there is no reason to go UEL unless you just want that boxer rumble.

Turbo placement isn't massively important. Keeping hot, fast moving exhaust hitting the turbine is a big goal, as is ensuring that the turbo can properly drain the oil from its CHRA. Hope that helps some.

Thanks,
Eric
