Following the CarScoop's rendering I can't help but not like the shield-like grill piece. It feels like it has too much of a snout to me. I think I'll have to reserve my judgement until the unveiling and official photos, but I do like the rear end from the teaser, seems Toyota has spent time styling both the front and rear.

Maybe Toyota will make it drive like it looks...

As Autoblog commented, given the declining market for the segment, designers are being given more freedom to implement crazy new tactics to try and whoo buyers.

The new Accord will probably debut in Detroit and people expect it will be a radical department from the current car, much like the new Civic was to the old.

Very true.

They are all becoming cookie cutter and bland. Similar auto trend with American cars in the late 70's and 80's.

All the Lexus' models with that signature predator grille, Acura when all had the chevron grille, Infiniti with all of their cars starting with Q.

Gone are the distinctive names, their identity, their soul.

When I test drove the RC-F, I happen to see a small sticker next to the window sticker stating that front bumper/grille have a crash rating of 5mph. How sad is that.

I think most of them look pretty sharp, especially the C-HR.

If you want bland, look at Hyundai's 2017 line-up.

Toyota/Lexus have gotten flak for over a decade for being boring and bland. Now they're pushing the envelope, so it's nice to see.

They're still cookie cutter. Transverse mounted engine, massive front/rear weight imbalance. Mac Strut front with multi-link (or torsion beam - ewwwwwwww) rear. Floating brake calipers with vented front, solid rear rotors.

Same boring formula found underneath almost every common car sold today.

Obviously Toyota is doing something right considering how many they sell every year.

Most people on the road want to be as isolated from the car as possible. That doesn't mean they need to drive in a boring looking car though.

I think Toyota is doing a solid job of making boring cars that are nice to look at. I prefer Toyota's recent design over most other cars in the same price range (Aside from Mazda).
