My wife owns a Juke Nismo 2013. Unfortunately it came with the AWD but CVT transmission. Actually, it's a fun car but suffers from decent turbo lag and a crappy transmission. Get the FWD version with the stick. Ours has 40,000 miles on it with literally no problems. Overall, I would recommend it.

i'd wait to see what the CX5 diesel really looks like. It is supposedly officially coming out next year and could be really interesting.

Nissan cvt's seem to be way too hit or miss for me to trust them. Some go in 60,000 miles or less and some last well over 200,000. If they were reliable it would be nice, because I do like the transmission.

Yeah I test drove a new Miata before I tried the BRZ.. the roll was bad. It felt as bad as like driving the Mustang. Even the Mini Cooper S cornered better. (Or at least felt better to me)

Very nice, I haven't seen a decent side by side review. I have had some time behind the NB and did enjoy that. They are awesome and pretty fun cars.

Haha that's a bit of an $11,000+ jump...

The $21-31k (zing!) range is rich with lots of cute-utes and entry sporty luxo rides. So many options!

OP - have you checked out the Mazda CX-3? Supposedly very fun to drive and a good awd system. The loaded Touring model has some nice kit and is cheaper than the Nismo model. Or a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk which you can probably get some 15-20% msrp on that sucker. And there's the MINI Countryman/Paceman/Clubman lineup with stick and turbo 4 with plenty of aftermarket support & motorsport activity, hell they'll even pay you if you win:

Then VW golf GTI or alltrack/tiguan for more space. I had a 2013 Wolfsburg GTI for two years, was a great daily but sounds like you could use a bit more practicality. Shame they don't make the Tiguan with the DSG 2.0T pairing.

Infiniti is coming out with a QX30 that looks pretty sharp, should be priced around $30k. Of course you have the Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and BMW 1 series in that grouping. I'd recommend the Lexus NX but those damn things don't sell for $30k>, at least around here, they are more like $36-38k cars.

Not sure if a Juke or QX30 (seen a 'S' model on the road, looked nice) has more usable interior space than a 5 door GTi.

Same vehicle in the Juke segment is the CX-3.

I would take a CX3 over a Juke for several reasons. I like that you can get 3 pedals in a CX3, but not if you choose AWD. If they made an AWD CX-3 with 3 pedals, I'd probably have one.

You can get 3 pedals with a FWD Juke too.

My friends Juke Nismo RS consistently shames a lot of faster sports cars on track and autox. They're surprisingly light, responsive to mods, and can fit a lot of tire (he runs 295 wide hoosiers all around!) I haven't driven it, but I've rode along in autocrosses and the car is surprisingly flat in corners and grips quite well. All the weight is low in the car, so it feels more like being in a fwd sports car with high seats than it does an SUV/CUV. Granted, his is lowered, but has stock sway bars. The Recaro Sportster CS seats are damn good in that car too.

All that praise said, it's fucking ugly... lol

That right there. Too many other quality competitors to consider something that looks so awful.

To be fair, only the FWD comes in manual and I have 2 other RWD vehicles. are there any RWD options? from my bit of looking around it is either AWD or FWD.
