OFT not reading ECU

Hi guys! So I just got a brand new OFT to use on a used 2013 BRZ that I recently bought, but upon trying to read my stock rom, I get this error message, "An error occurred while reading data from ECU. Please try again." I did a lot of forum searching and I'm starting to fear that the previous owner locked the ECU with an ecutek/brzedit tune and never flashed it back to stock. Just wanted to see if this is indeed the case or if there's a sure way to find out. The current calibration code is ZA1JA01C. Thanks in advance!

See if the oft will read ecu info
see if oft will log data

of oft will log data and read ecu info

then it working ok

if the read button is not greyed out ie its active and the oft wont read ecu then its almost certianly locked by brzedit or ecutek.

hopefully its ecutek as you jist got a bonus ecutek licience worth $350 in ecu

theirs no easy way to tell if its brzedit or ecutek.

you could try pulling the cruise stalk toward you with cruise off, and see if taco jumps to 1,2,3,4 this would indicate ecutek tune

Thanks for the help! Yeah, the OFT will log data and read ECU info, so thank goodness it's working. Tried pulling the cruise stalk toward me to see if anything would happen and got nothing. So, should I find a tuner and see if they can rewrite my ECU back to stock so I can use my OFT? Is that even possible? Sorry, not too experienced with this.

Hmmm does sound like ecu is locked.

Try disconnecting battery (you will loose audio system setting/clock etc) press brake pedal, then re-connect car battery.

See if oft will read ecu then.

If cruise stalk did no do anything then it likely its brzedit tune, but not all ecutek tunes use cruise stalk map switching mode.

Yes if you fine brzedit or ecutek tuner thay will be able to unlock ecu, problem is you don't know for sure which system it is.

bit of info here

Had the same problem with mine due to the previous owner having an ecutek tune put on my car. Same code as well.

And map switching is only part of the racerom features of ecutek, which is like another $300 or something. There's a couple ecutek tuners near ATL, you could try and call one and see if they'd check if it's ecutek for you.

Thanks for all the help guys. So I took my car to a tuner here in GA and we discovered that there's no ecutek license on it, so it's likely a brzedit tune. Unfortunately, they only tune with ecutek so they couldn't do anything for me. Same with another shop I called. Seems there are no brzedit tuners here to flash my ECU back to stock, so I guess I'm fu****. Oh well, I'll figure something out. Completely discouraged though.

If you want to go ecutek then get the ecutek tuner to contact ecutek in the England, they can remote access via his computer and remove the brzedit tune, but you will need to buy ecutek licience and go ecutek tune. Any ecutek tuner should be able to do this by contacting ecutek in england to write over the brzedit tune.

Then just sell your oft and go with ecutek tune

couple of other choices

find a brzedit tuner
repleace the ecu they are about 150
buy tactrix cable and a copy of brzedit 170 tactrix and 100 for brzedit

Yeah, I'm thinking of just buying a tactrix cable and brzedit, but before I do, I just want to make sure that there aren't any other tuning solutions that could lock my ECU?

None that I know about, but that does not mean they don't exist.

Most of the stock roms are attached to the Tactrix thread linked below.

for a usa manual 2013 use the B01C rom

however those wont work with brzedit you need to use the suplied stock roms that come with brzedit as you cannot read in other rom from my underrstanding
