Just checking in again - I've been driving mine a lot since the camshaft sensor/oil valve were swapped out and I've had absolutely zero shuddering or dropping below 600 at idle. I really think they've found the problem.

Oddly enough, i think I've actually noticed this on my dads 2009 Lancer Ralliart with less than 9000 miles on it.

Hanzo, I've been following your posts and I think I know where you're head is at. If I'm wrong, forgive me. This thing is playing out as a recall. If you are thinking that maybe you dodged a bullet and will not be affected, it may be time to slowly adjust to the idea that your car will have to go in for the repair. It won't be so bad, if what Stu's good result turns out to be the same for everybody. First model year cars always have bugs. Everyone here who thought otherwise — and I remember all those statements about how Toy.-Sub. "really tested this one thoroughly," etc. — is nothing more than magical thinking and naivete. |

Is this happening to both manuals and automatics? I have an automatic and have noticed that when I come in fast to a stop sign or red light the car will shake a bit almost like it wants to stall. I thought it was just me but after reading all this I think there's a problem. The weird thing is it doesn't happen all the time and doesn't really matter if AC is on or not. This sucks. I'm at 288 miles and thought it was just breaking in.
What is the hypothesized fix? I hope it becomes fact soon. I hate coming up to stop signs now and wondering if it is gonna do it or not. |

If you want to help get this fixed, there is actually something you can do to help. Monitor the condition - note EXACTLY when (time of day, temp / humidity / ambient conditions) and how it happens (ie: coming to a stop, foot on clutch, in neutral as idle comes down etc.) and what your drive pattern was before that point. (how long and how many miles had you been driving, how fast were you going, did you just get gas, etc). Then write all this down and bring it to the dealer and give them the all the info.
My shop diagnoses hard problems all the time, and the first step is always to duplicate the condition. If you can't get a car to do what the customer says is happening, there is often no way to diagnose it. This is true of almost any situation. And knowing when it acts up makes it infinitely more likely that they will be able to reproduce it and eventually diagnose the condition. Also remember that numerous things can cause a similar condition. Too rich, too lean, too much cam advance, you didn't quite depress the clutch pedal fully, etc. This is why the exact conditions for duplication are so important. |

Recall might be jumping the gun here people, it seems a lot of us complaining of the issue are very low mileage...
I'm at 1600 km now, and had a good lengthy drive around town last night - I didn't experience the issue a single time (even when trying to reproduce it). It may be the ECU just learning (and me learning).. and the engine breaking in. Naturally, I'm going to continue monitoring the issue... but I think it really just might be new-baby panic. |

When I brought it in, maybe 100. Yeah. I wasn't happy about that. I was scared to drive the thing because I didn't want to cause engine damage or something. Now it's at... I dunno, 350, 400?
Quote:
2) I brought it in to the dealer because the check engine light was unpredictable. It would turn on one day and off on others. Nonetheless I brought it in. New cars shouldn't be throwing off check engine lights. 3) The shuddering happened every once in a while. I informed the service guys of this (WITHOUT mentioning this thread at all - I just said that the RPM will go down all the way to 400 or so and then shoot up. Also mentioned that it happened most often after highway driving followed by a stop sign.) 4) I brought it in to the Subaru dealer. Sure enough the engine tech said said, yep, there's a problem and you're the second guy in north america with it, we're calling subaru HQ and getting it fixed for you 5) A couple days later it was fixed. 6)
