Can't have stations selling low octane stuff at high octane prices and not submitting the tax on the difference!

It is important to know that regular gas here is around $3.50 a gallon and the premium can be $4.50 to 5.50 a gallon so the stations stand to make a tidy profit (and the province lose a tidy sum in taxes) if they can slip you regular for premium prices.
Damn, such a sad world we live in where we have to misrepresent things to make money. Prices here are like 2.20 low and 3.00 high octane, so the profit they'd make ripping people off wouldn't be worth the lawsuit they could get into.

LOL No doubt some cave man made that exact same comment when he was given rhino meat instead of the mastodon he was promised in exchange for his nice sabretooth pelt.

It isn't new and it has always happened. It is just easier to hear about it now.

Unfortunately, the only easy way to tell (without actually subjecting the gas to proper analysis) is to start on 93 and then go to the suspected 90; The ECU will only progressively decrease compensation for knock, etc. that may have shown up on 90 octane. It will react very quickly if you add 'bad' gas.

I did this once on my old car, stupid mistake - I was distracted and went for the pump color I was used to, not noticing it was a station that still had a separate pump for each octane... the performance difference was very obvious.

That said, that 90 octane may be better than Cali 91 still...

Knock would be present, but i think fuel trims would be most noticeable. When i switched from e85 to 93, my fuel trims were insane, even while switching properly, but flkc didn't seem too bad unless you're flooring it, which i suggest not doing because the ECU has to learn.

If you can watch trims and log, as you say: you can tell. I was under the impression that no such logging was available, so you'd have to go by feel.

Oh. I have an OFT. Really useful tool, my friend even has one for his Fiat. I'm sure some other OBD scanners/readers can pick up on it too.

Today, I went and filled up at said gas station and when I went to pay I made the comment that they are the only gas station around here that sells 93 no ethanol, to which the cashier exclaimed it is not 93, it is 90. So I said well you should change to label on the pump and cashier replied I'm just a button pusher.

Now I've had a few fill ups with the normal 93 from shell but mostly have been from this particular gas station. I'm going to log my drive to and from work tomorrow to see if everything looks fine but should I be concerned? The only abnormal things I have notice is that car seems a little sluggish sometimes but that was only a couple times. Should I flash to 90 till the tank is gone?
Where do you live? your location says U.S.A- kinda big place. I ask because I also have 93 0% ethanol in three places by my house and I'm running OFT 93 stg2 custom OFH tune with absolutely no problems. Even if you do have only 90oct you should be able to get by with the OFT 91oct tune.

You can, but rule is that octanes higger than the tune's rating is okay, octane lower than the tune's rating is not. The car will even run on 87, but should only be done in an emergency.
