245s square would be a much better idea, but ultimately you're going to have to live with the reality that there's not much you can do to generate grip on some lots. |

I just got my car a couple months ago, mostly for road course, but I have been thinking it would also be fun to do some autocross. At this point I am trying to stay as close to stock as possible to learn the car, so I would prefer to go into the c street (or d street now?).
The only problem I am seeing with my car is the oil cooler. From what I have read, it is not allowed in the "street" class. I do take my car out to road courses, and was seeing close to 280* oil temps, so the oil cooler is very necessary for the car. Any suggestions on the best route to do both autox and road course? It would be quite a pain to remove/re-install the oil cooler all the time. With no other options, could I leave everything installed and just disconnect/plug the lines at the oil sandwich plate? |

For local events, pretty much nobody will give you grief over an oil cooler unless you're beating a lot of people. |

My plan for other mods is to do camber bolts and a sway bar (need to look into the options) to take advantage of what is awllowed in the class |

I went too big (25mm hollow Hotchkiss on the front), and I kinda regret how very big it is. Go with one at least a little smaller then mine.

From my experience, the car definitely goes faster with a Hotchkis bar on the softer setting, than it does with the end links through the stiff hole.

Sooo is everyone jumping to DS?
I'm contemplating the move, which means I have to figure out a new setup. I never drove my FRS in autox before putting on the TRD stuff, and I'm not sure what to expect. Is it best to up-size the front or rear sway bar? Or is it course dependent? My FRS in TRD form is fairly easy to rotate, while some other locals were running a stock BRZ all season that was fairly pushy. I know the spring rates in the FRS are slightly different, so it is supposed to be a bit easier to rotate the FRS in stock form vs the BRZ. So...bigger front bar for the FRS, or will that make it too pushy?

With the stock front bar you will have too much body-roll in slaloms and fast transitions. You might get a little bit of exit understeer but it should be manageable. From my experience anyways...

I think you'd be crazy not to switch if you plan to run NTs or have an ND in your region. The ND Miata is 1 second faster on average on a 60 second course, rain or shine.

Just picked up a 2017 86. It'll be set up for DS (or CS, wherever they put it) and I'll be daily driving it. I'm coming from an STR (ish) Miata, just wanted something with a bit more footspace lol
Just wanted to say thanks for the thread everybody, definitely saves some time getting pointed in the right direction ![]() Supposedly the 2017 has slightly stiffer front springs and slightly softer rear springs than the previous FR-S. I'm going to take the car to two small local events bone stock this month. After that I'm planning to pick up some dedicated wheels/tires, and to stick on a Strano front sway along with some crash bolts and set my alignment. I'm thinking max camber (duh), 1/16" total toe out in the front, 1/16" total toe in in the rear. I'm gonna leave the shocks stock for the first season I think, probably buy konis and a catback for next season. Am I on the right track here alignment wise? |

If your car does not have TRD parts it should be DS. Curious how the new gearing will work in the stock class, it tops out at 57mph in 2nd. What gen was your STR Miata? The ND's look like a ton of fun in STR.

I figure the 2017's will follow the same trend as the pre-MY17 cars.

With the performance package with Brembo brakes and 17x7.5 wheels available, they may put all the new cars in CS
