Wow, that's my local dealer, I've got a test drive booked in the next few days too. Might have to call up Sammy and make sure Pierre is nowhere nearby when I come down. Oliver, another salesman there, seems like a decent guy. I guess you're burned on them now eh, it's a shame. Still, two year wait gives me time to save up a shitton of deposit

I'll cut out how long it took to actually get acknowledged and cut to the chase.

The salesman approaches me and asks if he can help me, so I extend my hand and introduce myself. He just looks at me for a moment, obviously this is not something Toyota customers generally do.

After telling me that (and I quote verbatim) "this car is the worst thing ever", I ask him if the car I am eying is sold as I wanted to put my 5 year old daughter in the back to see how workable it is. I'd actually been waiting to do this for almost 15 minutes, but I don't think it's good form to just "help yourself". Forgot I'm now slumming it at Toyota, didn't I?

He then tells me that yes, this one is sold. "In fact the 86 is completely sold out for the next two years", he claims.

I told him I wasn't stupid and did he want to rethink that statement, to which he just repeated his original assertion that unless "something could be done", there was a two year wait list.

I'm not sure how politely tell someone they are full of shit, but I did my best and asked him his name. It was Pierre, something he still hadn't shared despite me introducing myself as he wandered up.

One can only imagine what kind of "deal" he was trying to do off the back his bare faced lie, but I wasn't hanging around to find out. I informed him that his was not the only dealership in town and that I'd find someone not quite so full of shit.

So, that's one down. Good thing there are almost as many Toyota dealerships as McDonalds. I guess that's the kind of salesperson you get when all you sell is washing machines.
sorry to hear you had such a shit experience,, that guys sounds like he needs to get fired.

I better get my ass in to gear and check them out before they go bye bye. Cant believe these are unsold, or they got no orders for them? I've told them I wanted to be kept informed, but they really are useless up here. Funny when they get the shits when people buy their Toyota's from down south instead of here because they won't price match. Buy local they say.....

Coyote, please read my PM, i hope it is of some help
Just like the FJ Cruiser, people wait until the car has been released before putting order. People also like to see the actual car before ordering too.

Bit of a hard one this... I have a feeling that any orders we take now, will be well into 2013 before they arrive. From what Toyota told us, our allocations are about 2 maybe 3 per month, so it doesn't take long for a Franchise to be sold out for a long time.
Even when we batch order a car, it might say "scheduled production" of september or october... however this is no guarantee and can be pushed out a month or more. (I remember a Hiace Turbo Diesel that took 9 months due to the shortage of supply).

If the 2 or 3 per month is correct, then we have also sold out well into 2013 just by the number of orders we took in the last week.
My only suggestion is, work with your dealer, ask to be given updates as they occur, and use the time while waiting for your car, to save some more money to buy cool bits and pieces from the USA and Japan.

Or, just use carsales, and contact the dealers that have cars in stock and BUY THEM NOW.

Some people blindly order something and convince themselves its what they will want, others wait until they can actually drive it to see if they like it.

I predict there will be a few on carsales in the next 6 months from people who made a "panic" purchase.

There is already one "used" 86 for sale on carsales! So while there will be a waiting list for new cars, if you are willing to buy a slightly second hand one I don't think it will be impossible.

My guess is those who preordered are the ones who will benifit, as the production are very limited. It will be a long wait when the vehicle is released.

Got my order in last week for Red GTS. Delivery eta March 2013. Every 2 sales per dealer is adding another month to the wait list. Its a crying shame.
