Dealer prep, myself
So I told my dealer not to take off the protective plastic or wash the car.
I've never gotten a car this "fresh". I need to drive it home, which is five hours. I want to take the plastic off and do a very quick rinse down at the dealer before leaving. Is there anything bad about doing this? Is there really glue on those sheets or are they just static cling? I don't want to get home with glue streaks that are embedded with dirt. Should I bring my goo gone and some mf towels with me to clean it up first? Since this will involve almost 11 hours of drive time and I've only got a day to do it in, I want to do only the bare essentials while at the dealer. Also told them that if the chrome fuel cover was put on over scuffed paint (someone mentioned that's how the port does it) I told them Subaru will need to replace the fuel door under warranty, as scratches to ANY part of the car upon delivery are a defect. Thoughts? |

I had to clean little "glue lines" off the paint after I took delivery. So they put some kind of adhesive on the edges of the plastic.

Was it sticky enough that I should worry about dust during my drive? Or was it really soft and easy to clean off?

The light glue lines should be easy to remove. Some IPA you can buy at the drug store (rubbing alcohol) should do the trick. You shouldn't worry about the drive. Lots of cars are on the transport trucks for long hours and they fare well.

I was able to rub off the glue lines with some "goo gone" and a terry cloth towel.. not a big problem.
I wouldn't stress too much about your drive home. I let the dealership do their detail and then I put 500 miles on the car before I did a proper detail job. I don't see any issues at all. |

Leave it on for the drive home. Have it detailed and protected when you get home.

It should stick just fine. The ones riding on top of the trailer probably get as much airflow as a car on the pavement and they seem fine.
