DIY Front Splitter?

Who here has done this. I watched a video on YouTube of a guy with an 86 that made one and he made it look so simple. I hope I'm not missing anything.

Idea is to make chassis mounted splitter and aggressive lip. Buying sheet of industrial plastic from summitracing and support rods from JDM. Going to use a sheet of cardboard to sketch up initial design then cut the plastic with a jigsaw. Sand out any rough edges.

Could anyone show me all the mounting points by chance?

Are your goals aerodynamic or aesthetic? If aesthetic, that's fine. If aerodynamic, do you have a scientific way to measure and do testing?

Meh. Although I get your point, it's just a knife edge to better keep the air mass from being compressed underneath. Now the spoiler, that's a much bigger deal.

OP needs to make damn sure it's attached well lest it become a hazard for those behind him.

Yes, my next project is this. I'm using: ingenuity, elbow grease, and a chunk of something rigid. Sheet aluminum? We will see.

In my experience ABS plastic is basically junk. It is hugely temp sensitive, (brittle when cold, saggy when hot) and wears away quickly. I've built a bunch of splitters for time attack cars as well as a bunch of club racers. Ideally you are looking for a lightweight core with a stiff and tough outer layer. We have used Roacell foam, honeycomb. And end grain balsa for the core, all pretty successfully. However, for the guys on a budget, marine quality plywood is pretty much amazing. It is tough, light and durable. As a bonus, if you do rip it off somehow, it won't destroy the bottom of your car. (Please don't use aluminum plate, as it is heavy and dangerous)

3/8" thickness is usually what I use.

I know that plywood isn't very sexy, but is light, stiff, and inexpensive.

Don't use the junk from your local hardware store, get real hardwood ply, with at least 5 layers. It is often referred to by the brand name "multiply "

I've been down the "I can make this" road before with certain products, and sometimes its just not worth the time/effort/materials/final product...

Save yourself the trouble and pick up a splitter from @VeloxEric

Proven product, and it looks awesome-I highly recommend it!

Good advice for people that have not done it before.

I have done all my mods. Paint, fabrication of custom aluminum parts, suspension, polished the exhaust, leather interior, made my own LED lights, custom HID, and stereo install.

I'm work in manufacturing; ABS is garbage for this application.

Mugen and spoon have used wood splitters. Good enough for me too. I already have sheets of marine grade multiply. I'm going to water proof it and glaze the edges, its' not going to look like wood.

If you are comfortable with fabrication, its not a "hard" project. Some members have self built turbo kits. I'm building a "surfboard" in comparison. It has no moving parts. Lol

Your surfboard won't have a turbo on it?

I love doing DIY things, but theres some stuff I just KNOW I'm not good at haha-so I don't bother and just pickup the dang thing from someone who does know what they're doing.

Me too! If I got a turbo, I would get help installing and tuning!

Mrs. Ultra stumbled across a bolt of Ceconite we inherited from my mom. This just happened.
