Just did a little research and we should see the 2013 WRX real soon with a redesigned body and new engine probably FA20 Turbo..

What is your thought on this? Pretty much should just wait and see what it would be.. and the 2012 become undesirable unless the 2013 is really ugly.

From a modding stand point it is so much easier to get power out of current 2.5T than the rumored 2.0T in next year's model

Does anyone have good thing to say about the 2012 WRX? I know the steering response and handling will not be as good but I'm sure it can't be that bad.

Is this the last year of it's generation?

It appears just as difficult to find as the BRZ however.
The WRX IMO (coming from a 10 year old Civic) is refined and not as raw as others would like you to believe. It's pretty quiet, even with the drone-y sedan exhaust. The hatch is even more quiet.

I think it's a cool looking car.

It obviously has a lot of power and mods are plentiful and easy.

There is a lot of storage space, the trunk and hatch is big.

I'm still breaking it in but it's fast even below 4k rpm.

They're good in inclement weather.

They're for the most part reliable. There are horror stories about ringland failures but I think for the most part they were in the '09 WRX models and in STI models.

They handle well for what they are. Sway bars and endlinks help a lot in this department.

The seats are more comfortable than supporting.

--------

About the 2013MY I think a redesign won't be until 2014, but I could be wrong...

I am close to getting a 2012 WRX STI but read about ringland issues that plagued a (small?) sample of WRX and STI owners. Very expensive problem...
is this too much of a worry to stay away from this car?

A lot of the issues mostly happened on the '08 STIs, and has happened less and less throughout the years.

The failures were due to a lot of things: the earlier stock tunes were too lean causing knock/detonation, people were modding and not tuning, people were driving their cars too hard, and IMO didn't keep an eye on oil or didn't change oil at the correct intervals.

Yes there are and were engines that failed that were stock, but I think they are few and far between. And usually failure happens within the first 0-40k. (and generally under warranty)....

Again we're talking like less than 1% for stock failures.

In the end it is something to keep in the back of your mind especially if you decide to mod, but it's also something that shouldn't keep you up at night.

Do not do anything to your car unless you tune for it. This includes intake and all exhaust except catback. You should be fine.

Ringland failures only occurs to about 5% do to many factors like improper maintenance, poor / improperly tuning the ECU. Very aggressive driving i.e. Bouncing off the rev / fuel cut. The reason the '08. STi had a recall was Subaru had no table at fuel cutoff and the computer couldn't recover from the over lean condition fast enough.

Computers do all the work? Do you mean the viscous f/r diff, or the open l/r diff is computer controlled?

Locally, you can get a wrx for 23k before tt&l with no issue.

Maybe he means the computers in my heated seats or Homelink?

Yeah the AWD on the standard WRX is mechanical, and it has all of the computer aides that the BRZ/FRS does.

Heck I'd argue that a BRZ Automatic has more!

... The STI and EVO have a bit more computer things, but its hardly driving the car for you...er well maybe in the EVO's case.
