That's right tcoat you've got part of the formula (humorous image, video, text) but it doesn't follow any sort of culture or behavior besides "he he look at the funny."

Usually a meme involves a recurring subject, one that can be imitated and re-worked for parody or satire. Doesn't even have to be a pic or video, can just be a phrase like "IT'S OVER 9000!" or "FHRITP" which can be run over and over again until we're dead cause it will always be funny.

That doesn't just mean the format of funny random cat picture with text. But then again, some may be memeable (see grumpy cat, i can haz cheeseburgers), but we should also recognize the difference between a weak meme and a dank meme. A weak meme example is a cheeseburgers or a memegenerator image. A medium-well meme would be those Shoob doggo's. But a dank meme like #imwithharambe or #dlkcsoutforharambe will stick to your ribs and keep you satisfied all day.

Ahhhh but all things that became true memes started out with a first post. Maybe some of our funny pictures with writing will indeed become memes. If we stick to just "accepted" memes this will be a very boring thread and it will die a rapid death.
