Damn! This must been long ago... Poor Emperor, he want to retire and make his son take over... but there's no such rule/law atm, so he can't retire.

Cleaned out my room that was filled with amazon and other boxes from car part sites.
Forgot I had a room the size of a studio in downtown Seattle

I remember watching news bout it and currently, there's now rule/law about it, so until they make rule/law, he cannot retire.

Damn, that's rough. Trapped in a gilded cage. Hopefully he can have as many vacation days as he wants.

There's no such thing as "vacation" for the Emperor. 24/7/365 days work...

My God, that's horrible! I've never considered anything like that. I would go insane.

Wouldn't help. I would make a terrible monarch.
I'll guess it's the "performance of ceremonial functions" that would be the catch-all. Can't run off and do your own thing. ...ever. I wouldn't want to be a celebrity for the same reason. Anonymity has its benefits.

While I was helping Kumamoto relief for few wks, he was visiting the area and meeting and all that jazz. Right afterward, he had to fly back and do some kind of awarding. Emperor Akihito is over 80 yrs old (iirc) last year and this year, he and his wife haven't had less than a wk of free time (so tv show claim). If that's true or not I'm not sure... but that's hellova hard working Emperor imo |
