The 5th gen was my favorite ever since I saw my first 1992 Celca All-Trac, growing up. It's a shame we never received the 6th gen GT-Four in the states. Then Toyota left WRC in 1999. That totally changed the direction of the Celica into a complete Honda Integra rival. But they are returning back to WRC in 2017 with a… WRC Yaris?!?! Such a total missed opportunity on the part of the 86. I'm sure Subaru could probably make it AWD turbo, seeing how it share an older version of the WRX chassis. I think Subaru probably said no, since they would have a competitor to the Subaru Impreza WRX STI (it's fun to call it by its proper name) or there may not be enough room or it might throw the whole balance of the car off. And enough excuses from Toyobaru for not adding a factory turbo option. The aftermarket has had turbos and super chargers for a couple of years now.

But, I sure do love the fun to drive factor of my BRZ. Long live manual transmission RWD cars. I'll be heartbroken when they're gone.

Well you can look at that a couple of ways.


First off it may seem that the "strange" colours survive but they may have been a perfectly normal colour back when the car was new. The popular or normal colours for cars change with different eras. I remember that up until the late 70s silver cars were almost nonexistent since silver paint that actually stayed on the car was expensive so only the top makes had it. Anybody that remembers the early attempt at a silver Cordoba knows what I mean. Was not abnormal to see a 5 year old car with all the paint peeled off it already.


Normal in 55





Another thing is that in more recent years as white, black and silver became more common the strange colours were used more for special versions (all 70s Mopar muscle for example) and these cars were simply more collectable than their plain versions.


Retro colours on Dodges now are pretty common



Many of the survivors that have been restored may not have been the colour they are now when new. If certain colours were more brand identified then restorers will paint the car in that instead of what it originally was. The classic 55 Chevy light turquoise comes to mind as a great example of that.


How many restored 55s ended up this colour?

The other theory could be that the stranger colours become difficult to move on to new owners therefore the cars stick and are used less or they get resprayed. When the cars become collectible the original colours come back.

I think my 2003 TRD Celica GTS still holds up nicely. It was after they redid the horrible italic font gauges from the 2000-2002 Celicas, went to a black dash and changed out the taillights. The general shape of the 7th gen Celica was nice, it was the front bumper that kind of killed it (I felt that they fixed it with the facelift). Still, I got a lot of compliments on my Celica up until the day that I sold it.

I also regret selling mine. Toyota really fucked up by not making it RWD, I would have kept it until the day I died if it was. However, for FWD that was a really fun car to drive that I will always be fond of.

You never see such clean examples like this anywhere in Canada. If I would see one like this I would also compliment the owner! It was a a really cool car!

This car is really impressive out of the box, and a lot of fun. It actually reminds me a lot of my FRS. I originally bought it with the intention of flipping it, but the more I drive it, the more I want to keep it.

When I first got my BRZ it really reminded me of my family's old Integra LS-Special of the same gen. That low slung cockpit is amazing even to this day imo (it was basically a reworked 1990 Accord dash).

The BRZ being a low slung affordable sports car with handling to back it up in this day and age is quite refreshing. It will be sought after in 10 years (people always shit on modern remakes when new, but then will praise it over time).

Some people always knock on how loud the interior is with the twins. That Integra was just as loud with even more wind noise on the highway (we had the 4 door hardtop).

I haven't seen a mint sample on the road for at least 10 years. Sad that most are rusting quite bad by now.

Is that a facelift GS-R? That's one fine car.
