This thread reminds me of the Attention Post Whores thread in the OT of the EvoM forums...

APW had 256,000 posts and 2.4 million views
APW 2.0 had over 100,000 posts
APW III has 30,000 posts.

We've got some catching up to do. I no longer own an Evo so my whoring must be done here.

Behold, ~15 hp, 2550 GRAMS. Why don't cars have these in place of starters and alternators yet?

Because of archaic 12v electrical?

They keep talking about higher voltage systems but never do anything...

Would this be of use for you turbo generator system?

Darn, I forgot about 12V. No, for a DIY mild hybrid system.

I think it can be done! I just need to get my hands on one of those bonkers 250A motor controllers and check the power circuitry to make sure it plays nice with ultracapacitors. They're supposedly programmable, I hope that means the motor can be deactivated when the "battery charge" (hehe) is low. Would need a 12V converter to be able to charge a (very) downsized lead acid battery for emergency starts and ECU/ignition functions. Needs to be wired up to brake pedal to always generate power when brakes are pressed and in neutral, clutch needs to be completely out before electric motor starts putting out power, electric "throttle" hooked up to gas pedal, and "push to conserve charge for pass" button somewhere. I assume a push button + turn key engine start should work since bump starting doesn't require the starter. Oh and engine kill switch for waiting at stoplights of course.

Sounds like some of the things full EV diyers use. I've seen 10 deep cycle batteries in series with an extra one for the 'normal' electrics. They use big motor controllers and 12v converters.

For some reason pure EV or PHEV with a range extending generator (that just charges the batteries) looks simpler than doing a hybrid conversion on a normal car.

Would you be going IMA type?

What about using that motor as a VERY mild hybrid by using it to reduce drag on a roots sc?

Yes, a powerful mild hybrid system requires all the components that a full EV needs besides a behemoth battery pack, so it is more difficult to do a mild hybrid conversion...parallel hybrid with fully electrified engine accessories is the hardest of course.

Basically IMA yea. I'm thinking chain drive? But I don't even have a car so this is all just having some fun browsing random sites.

Hey guys.

I figure this is the perfect thread for me.

I don't own an FRS/BRZ just yet, but I'm going to buy one upon graduation from college. I drive a Honda Fit at the moment, and this thread is like the one we have on our forum.

So, that said....

Sup dudes?
