Well I could have gone down a size or up a size, I didn't realize a Galaxy wasn't even a sedan until I got out there with the paperwork and by then I didn't feel like going back in. I also thought it was cool it was diesel and didn't know this road to the resort was so awesome until I got here.

Question out of left field for you guys.....

Have any of you had a family member go to jail? If so were you able to keep in contact with them? I was just starting to get a better relationship with them and they will most likely be in jail for 3-4 years. I know they are dealing with abandonment issues/possible depression so I want to try and be there for them but I was also not on the best terms with them leading up to this so I'm not sure if seeing me would just make it worse.

Don't have any friends who have had any situations like this so not really sure where to look for advice.

White collar crime, not anything violent

I'd probably write them off BUT I have very little patience any more. Additionally I put very little value on "family" as I see no reason why the vagina they came out of should determine whether you put up with their shit or not. But I'm pretty odd as far as I can tell so I expect most people will tell you the opposite. It's really up to you how much you value the relationship. If you don't care that much then walk away. If you really want to be a part of their life then continue to see them in jail

The funny part is what you wrote would probably offend most people but doesn't bother me in the slightest.....as terrible as it sounds what you wrote is what has been going through my head. I've never been a "family first" or "blood is thicker than water" kind of person. We just never had a very close family. I guess I want to try and change that as I don't want either of our last memories of each other to be about this. I appreciate any opinion and there is always the small chance that they won't be going to jail but their attorney thinks it is highly likely.....

I've had a couple of members of my Father's side of the family in jail or prison, one or two doing serious time for some serious crimes.

To me it would depend on two things, what are they in for (how much does that bother me morally/ethically) and how close was I to begin with.

I wasn't close so it meant nothing to me. I did go visit an Uncle once with my Dad, but only because he asked me to go with him.

My brother was arrested once for a pot possession and spent some time in the lockup (90 days I think). I did go visit him, and wrote him a couple of times.

A lot of things I think/say/believe offend common folk with good Christian morals. I think I'm just more logical as family members can and will fuck you over. But I'm not close with any "friends"either. I've tried to be sociable with the guys from work but turns out you can't be friends with them if you don't have a motorcycle so I guess some of my "negativity"comes from never believing you can rely on anyone. Haven't talked to my dad in nearly a decade now. Just don't care to, don't see a reason to. This is definitely a situation where you have to follow your heart

I've had one, but it was probably almost 2 decades ago when it happened. He was young and did stupid shit (hate using that excuse but it is what it is), but he has changed since then - almost regional manager of a rather large retail chain. I remember visiting him in jail when I was around 5 or 6. Have a lot of respect for him since he helped guide me to where I am now. Guess he didn't want me to get nowhere near the same path he did.

As others have said before me, follow whichever direction your heart takes you. I will say that you keeping in contact may help them with their abandonment issues and may help turn things around.
