Kind of like beating a dead horse now but deleting this assist spring is the single best thing I've done to my car. This is how the clutch should have felt all along. I was skeptical that it could have made that much of a difference but WOW.

It's too bad the car doesn't have a switch for the clutch spring like it does for the traction stuff--we could all put a paperweight on the button and get on with the program.

help guys, i was able to remove the e-clip and pin. but i could not move the clevis and remove the springs. took me 2 hours today and i really cant take it off.

push the clutch in all the way with your left hand--take a long screwdriver and find a spot down there to use as a fulcrum and apply a lot of pressure with the end of the screwdriver on the upper side of the spring--it's hard and then it's all over with when it finally moves

I've been wanting to try this mod for a while and I finally got around to it today. I have to say so far I'm really liking the change. It does make the clutch stiffer, but it's definitely still tolerable. Just takes a little while to adjust to the change.
The hardest part of the whole process for me was getting that stupid E clip out. I kept trying to push it out with needle nose pliers, but couldn't get it. Finally I was able to get both sides of the pliers positioned right and pushed really hard and the clip went flying off. Ended up busting my knuckles pretty good in the process. After that I hammer the clevis bolt a little with the handle of my screwdriver and then pried it out when there was enough space to get the flathead in there. Finally I just pushed the clutch pedal all the way to the floor and pulled the spring assembly toward me until it finally came out. Like a lot of people, I just put the spare parts in a ziploc bag. I think this spring delete is really going to do a lot to improve the clutch feel. I've been driving my FRS for over 3 years and was never real happy with the clutch. Always seemed like way too much travel and way to vague feeling. Now I've just got to get the pedal height exactly where I want it. Currently it's even with the brake pedal, but I may tinker with it a bit more. |

Doesn't the added play in the peddle bug you guys? I've been considering this for a while, but I don't think I would be able deal with the added looseness.

With my pedal lowered, I only have a tiny bit of play. It doesn't really bother me though. I think at stock height it's probably worse though.
