Yeah, I know FHM makes them. Just saying.
The red 86 is already out and the shade of red available is nothing like that render.

Old Hot Wheels cars had some nice colors, in a finish somewhere between a pearl and chrome-wrap.

I've always wondered what happens to those wheels over time. They are really common on high performance sports cars.

Those are not meant to be daily drivers with dirty sweaty hands on the wheel for hundreds of thousands of miles so they can get away with it.

Ive seen a video with a Lamborghini Reventon, the wheel is alcantara and it looked absolutely dreadful and if my memory serves me correctly, it didnt even have 1,000 miles on it

I had an alcantara wrapped steering wheel from JP Coachworks. Probably had close to 30K miles on it with now signs of wear.

I was able to see the 2017 model this past weekend and the revised front and rear is more disappointing then what they pictures made it out to be. In the front the headlights look more modern than the halogen light but they look cheap still and the first LED lamps still look best, the bumper is overly aggressive and doesn't fit the elegance of the rear-quarters and body lines. The taillights are just downright awful and the bumpers new diffuser looks cheesy at best.

The wheels are refreshing and fit the car really well, the 86 badge on the fender should be removed (I believe its a stick on?) and I like the replaced fender garnish. The interior has its ups and downs.. I love that the dash has Toyota 86 stitched in it but the alcantara seems out of place. All of the red stitching is replaced with black, the steering wheel is more "commuter" friendly rather than driver friendly, the seat material has been upgraded but I do miss the boy racer red lol. They are nice though! I enjoyed the floormats with the 86 plates and also the driver side mat having the padding that wont wear down within a couple months. The doorpanels have alcantara in exchange for the faux leather that was there on the previous generation and it does give a more luxurious feeling.

Overall I'm glad I have a first-gen 86.

Mine came with a nice set of all-weathers in the trunk. Scion gave you a nice little binder for the manuals, a pen and first aid kit. Toyota? Just toss 'em in the box.

I think it's a much better car, but I'm not a boy-racer. It's gone from full-retard to differently-abled. I suspect the "because racecar" crowd might not like it, but that is no longer the market the 86 is aimed at now that it has the big "T" on the hood.

Better is subjective for most of us 1st gen owners here. By the way, you got to admit....the new 86 will never have the hype or sales that the FRS had in the first 1 year of sales.

So much hype was built up that everyone wanted one.

The car has cooled off and people know what this car is now. A flashy new badge will not change much nor will it attract swarms of new buyers. The car is still a raw sports car that doesn't fit most Toyota buyers that want comfort and quiet cars. Especailly now with the rise of cross overs.

Also I don't agree about the boy racer thing. The FRS was a Toyota 86 everywhere else in the world and that attracted a lot of boy racers haha

As I have said many, many times. The boy racers had their crack at it and now it is time to broaden the market. Don't think it has anything to do with the T on it now since it was already a T every place else in the world. Just time to start expanding the potential buyer base.
As far as "better" goes it really is the same, only different.

Compared to a '13 FR-S, the 86 is indeed comfortable and quiet, and no longer in any way "raw". That will count as a loss to some, but as Tcoat said, they want to expand the demographics.

I will miss the noisy, bumpy little spaz that is the FR-S for about another week.

I'm hoping Toyota sells them by the truckload.
