Man I wish we used metric here. Outside of having to completely familiarize myself with eyeballing metric measurements I would love to use base 10 numbers.

It allows for easier understand and solving of complex problems later imo.

5 x 3 and 3 x 5 may get the same answer but through a different route when it comes down to it.
I am kind of sitting here laughing to myself as my first thought as well was the "why" and "when" to use common core whereas the parents who were complaining about it could only see that specific problem where it didn't make sense as it was more complicated in that specific instance. This is coming from someone who always got in trouble for not showing enough of their work on math.

Making threads on clickbait articles is annoying, but necrobumping threads with said clickbait articles is just as annoying if not slightly worse.
I did the rounds with him once, ignore listed him about two years ago, saw the spam and appreciated that he saved me some time and prevented giving 0.01 cents to some trashy website in ad revenue.

I've got 6 people on my ignore list, totally happy with that figure. I bet I'm on one or two people's ignore list as well.

I wonder how many lists I am on?

The fun part is that nobody that has me on their list will read this!

Conventional VS Common Core Math
Coincidentally that argument is why I hid my cousin on facebook.

Of course you Mrs. 30-something-year-old woman can do that three digit subtraction in your head with that trick you've been using for over 2 decades.

Your 6 year old needs it fucking explained step by step and that's what common core does you dipshit. I've got an Aunt in retirement age who will happily admit she doesn't understand fucking fractions. I'm all for abolishing 'teach to the test' but national standards are the reason Japan and Finland are top of the class meanwhile we've got states trying to teach fairy tales in science class.

Some people know how to shut their mouths better than others, I like to think I've learned over the ~3 years since I joined the site.

What if the illuminati is using common core to make us do the mathematics slower so we aren't as smarter and can't stop them when they take over the world?

^^ I tried to make this look stupid but I don't think it is obvious enough so please take this as sarcastically as possible. Thanks!

One last thing about common core:

Very specific example where if you did both methods and wrote out all your steps common core is infinitely faster

i was the same kid lol. Was good at math til Calc and then i couldnt figure out the why so easy so I never quite grasped it. In my work and daily life once I figured out the why is so important it changed my outlook on everything
