I'm just going to trust my original assessment and not make this impulsive switch last minute lol. My rep just told me it's on the truck and either coming tonight or tomorrow. I do find the car revs very weird and not smooth. Hard to explain. I would like to post a video tmr and confirm with other new 2017 owners if it's normal!

I haven't revved mine past 4k rpm. Trying to break here in first.

Yea. I meant standstill revs though and initial touch sensitivity of the accelerator. Ill post a video after work.

Guys, it's really tough keeping this thing under 4k...I feel like she's asking me to open her up a bit. Went to a car meet today with a buddies car club, first 17 they had seen so everyone was checking it out.

You shouldn't keep it under 4k. You should redline it often (once it's warmed up of course) - that's the only way to properly break in a motor... unless you want to have lots of blow by and use oil. Just be careful when you engage the clutch - don't slip it. That's the only reason the manufacturers still have a prescribed break in period - it's so the clutch can put down a uniform surface on the flywheel.

I know I could get flamed for saying this, but I don't care. Waiting any number of miles to drive your engine hard only hurts it in the long run.

There's a couple views on that but I'm in the school of thought that you need to be gentle on your engine while the pieces mesh together.

I'll be the first to flame you. While the owners manual is surely conservative I would definitely follow the instructions provided with proper break-in. If it was unnecessary they wouldn't put it in there

My car is here at the dealer finally. They had a bunch of parts to install so it won't be ready 'til the morning since the STi wheels didn't come til late today. I'll be sure to snap some pics in the morning when I pick her up!

I still wont get mine for another 2 weeks! I dont get it, im getting a little upset its later than everyone else. I called SOA and i got a snarky response when i said it was weird that people already have there cars and mine is still 2 weeks out.

Id just like to say its you, and all your engine building buddies vs the recommended break-in procedures found for every car made from every car manufacturer ever. I'll stick to the latter.

You do you though and as long as we all agree to do oil changes frequently i think we'll be alright

Pictures! I went by the local dealer and it turned out a 2017 manual in Pure Red was there! Not ready for test drive, but got to look around inside. IMO the new interior is a tremendous improvement, and feels much better than the 2016 model. The stitched padding is lovely, and goes nicely woth the soft-touch dashboard plastic. Even the faux-carbon (yes, the climate control panel does have glossy faux-carbon) looks much nicer than the textured plastic that used to be there. Feels much more like a sports car now. Biggest surprise was that the red looks incredible in person, and goes really nicely with the black and red interior. I still wouldn't be brave enough to do red, but if you like red cars you will not regret it.

Lol relax bro, some of us have a month wait, I think you'll be ok with half that time. There's a lot that goes into the process of getting your car to the lot and ready for you to take home. They're not even on sites yet the people who have them now are few too. if you wanted a Toyota the dealers don't even have all
The numbers yet and each dealer has about 1 86 being delivered all around except California. So consider yourself lucky it's 2 weeks.
