And yes some of the HF power tools are crap, while others I bought have lasted me over 10 years with heavy use.
But for hand tools - HF is fine if you are not a pro.

I got matco and my school paid for them im just paying it back in tuition at the end of the year so its okay with me. School also gives me 62% off matco tools if i buy thru them

Yep, I agree that most people overkill on tools.

In fact, most of my tools were made in Taiwan and/or purchased out of the $.99 bin at the hardware store.

My tools are a crazy mix. Some are average run of the mill but the ones I rely on most are unique. My own collection really started when I was stationed on Guam in the Navy. A friend from our sister squadron, HC-5, gave me a big box of hand tools all scrapped because of some slight cosmetic damage.

I sometimes feel like I missed my calling. The most enjoyable jobs I had were those with small employers where I got to manufacture and fabricate my own prototypes. I've been making chips off and on since, as a young teen, my dad took me in to his work on the weekends and cut me loose in their huge R&D facility. Thank you, Columbus McKinnon and thank God I slipped in just under wire before OSHA grew it's long arm.

My father made a decent retirement living in the swap shop business. One of the things he did was go to yard sales, buy semi-broken Craftsman tools, take them to Sears, get new ones, and then sell them in his booth for about 50%-75% of retail.

I've done the same, but kept the new ones for my own use.

Don't drive it much, I decided I'd get a less comfortable but faster car as a weekend toy. Getting a 2zz MR2 Spyder

Without a tune, it still pulls harder than the FRS at low rpm since it weighs 20% less. I also prefer the rear heavy handling.
