That just made my heart sink. So how would that work with the web tracking? If your car is being tracked and you can see when youre going to get it then suddenly someone else takes it. It would be blatantly obvious wouldnt it?

Don't stress. They would have to be scum bags to do that when you have web tracking. I have seen a customer told that the cars held for them would be sold to staff, used as a demo, and kept as display. Dealer will remain nameless, but this happened with the 86 just two weeks ago. Customer was dragged through a total of three stories over the space of two months to then have no car at the end. It its the first I'd heard of something so bad.

You're in the same boat as me. We'll play the waiting game together mate.

hmm... there might be some loopholes in the contract, but I don't think this has ever happened lol .. maybe if the dealer was reallly really shoddy ... but its still extremely unlikely lol.

EDIT: wow m0nty... thats a shocker of a story. name and shame!

I can't name then as I work at another dealer in Sydney metro area. The customer told me this story when he picked up a car from me, which he picks up next week. So he wins in the end.

I've heard some interesting stories from clients in the past few days too. I'll give you a couple of examples but like M0nty i won't be naming names either as i just don't have time to contest a law suit over defamation of character just now:

One guy told me he'd been to a dealer charging 3k deposit - subject to test drive.

Another guy told me a similar story but added the same dealer then told him it would cost him 10% cancellation fees if he pulled out of the deal (it's only 5% in NSW as M0nty mentioned in another thread). And then proceeded to hound him to buy the car but refused (or really had no idea) about delivery times and also refused to add an estimated delivery date.

Unfortunately with popular products there's always some slimy bastard out there who thinks they're smarter than everyone else and tries to over-capitalize on pricing when all they're really doing is outsmarting themselves in the end and not really helping our industry's image.

Price is important folks as everyone has a budget but quality dealers like M0nty and our group don't rely on underhanded tactics to make sales - we just be honest (is that a dirty word in the car game lol?) and ethical in all our dealings.

Seriously guys you most likely know more about most cars you want to buy than the dealers do, you can thank the interwebz for that - all you need is someone to deal with who is fair.

Now having said all that, it's our job as salespeople to sell as many cars as possible and to make as much money whilst doing so as possible, not gona hide it guys but there is a huge difference between a fair profit and a rip off. And yes, we are allowed to make a profit because if our boss doesn't make any money, how can he afford to pay us? But that doesn't give us free reign to make a profit however we see fit, we have to play by the rules as much as any other salesperson from any other industry and those who choose to make their easy money by defrauding the buyer, well let's just remember that it's easy come, easy go and that can cut quite deep sometimes.

P.S. I know that a lot of the salespeople out there that have been bending the rules with this car have most likely been doing so at the request of their boss, with all due respect to the public at large but we salespeople must do what our boss asks us to do or we don't have a job, it's that simple; so don't necessarily shoot the salesperson at your first opportunity, you might just be shooting the messenger.

Anyway guys i digress, if it doesn't feel right, don't do it and instead find someone you feel comfortable dealing with - you are, after all, trusting someone you don't know with what is for alot of us the 2nd biggest purchase in life. Not everyone who appears to be your friend in this game is and those who may appear to be an enemy may actually be your best friend in the end. Just go with your gut feeling. it's usually right.

Can someone help me. I spoke to my salesperson at terry shields Toyota today after placing a deposit last week, he said that the tracking number is attached to an unconfirmed order so even if I track it it will just show unconfirmed. However once the order is confirmed I'll get a new tracking number. He said it'll be available in one to two weeks. Is there any truth to this?

Yeah I'm pretty sure they are telling you the truth. I placed an order with them more than 2 weeks ago and only got my tracking details yesterday.
