Header Gasket
So many have said that the oem header gaskets will fail on an aftermarket catless header. I was going to get the grim speed headers and call it good. Then while looking at the JDL auto headers I am going to order i see they offer this sweet kit with the gaskets and locking nuts so I don't have to go back a re torque the header nuts! The only problem is that it says it come with "Pair of OEM header gaskets" lol. I would link their site but I dont think i can. Any opinions on whether I should stick with the Grimspeed or will the ones JDL auto offer work just as good? @ATL BRZ wana chime in??
The picture is the JDL gaskets that says theyre OEM. dont look oem to me

I bough the uel header with the promo of 86 fest. Came with oem gaskets and their locknut package. Basically that offer is plug and play, came with the hardware you need to install it. You cant go wrong with jdl header, and their warranty is hard to beat. After a heat cycle i re-torqued for peace mind but is not needed.

I don't think it would make any difference. It's not so much the gasket (as long as it fits) as how the header is tighten up against the head. I'd make sure the header fits snug (when it is relaxed) put the gasket in place, then tighten the nuts, moving from one to the other, a little at a time, until they are "manifold nuts tight" ...... or your favorite torque specification. Heck, back in the day, we used to "make" (cut our own) manifold gaskets out of a sheet of asbestos. Be damned the dust ...... we were bullet proof .... actually we didn't know ..... humfrz |

OR the OEM gaskets can be thinner because the OEM header fits better...... OR the robot that tightened down the OEM header did a better job Hey, I'll take you up on an iced tea ....... I had to quit drinking 20 some years ago ....... the whisky was getting too strong ....... humfrz |

I used new OEM gaskets when installing a Revworks catless UEL header. Works like a charm after 2 years. Perhaps if you have issues with an aftermarket header where the end plate (or whatever you call it) isn't completely flat where it meets the exhaust port.
