I came from a 04 K24 Sedan, had a few mods but it came with 160hp/165tq, believe it or not it felt a little faster then the BRZ, but I think thats just the torque difference.

I owned an 05 TSX myself for 3 years it was a hoot to drive for a FWD power wise you'll definitely see a difference in pick up with the twins though I do miss the extra .4 liters of torque.

Btw was your tsx tuned in any way? Because my vtec didn't kick in until 6000rpm which I don't hit much so it was almost useless to me.
I had 2006 TSX 6spd as well for about a year and for me the car is just too heavy for the engine.
Also the K24A2 in TSX had VTEC engage rpm so high (6200 rpm) and redline so low (7300) that by the time you hit VTEC you have to shift into next gear.
And the gearing in that car didn't help the engine either, especially going from first to second.
When I shifted from redline in first gear to second gear, the rpm dropped all the way down to 4500 rpm where there was no power or torque available.
I had 2003 BMW Z4 3.0i 6spd (230hp) along with the TSX and TSX just felt really really slow.

Anyway, going back to topic, I bought 2016 Audi SQ5 right before I bought my FR-S.
SQ5 is very fast for a small crossover. It is definitely faster than my previous car which is 2016 WRX with stage 1 tune. But it is a crossover so very tall and heavy.
FR-S is complete opposite of that car. Low and light but slow in acceleration.
But my daily is FR-S because with SQ5, I can't enjoy the best part about the car without breaking the law. With FR-S, it is just fun all around to drive, and no need to worry too much about breaking the speed limit.

I have a 2015 Lexus IS 350 f sport w/ 306 hp and just put in an order on a 2017 BRZ. This will be the least powerful car I've owned in over 20 years. In fact even this lexus was a step down for me in power. I've had Porsches, M3s, etc for a long time. I guess I've gotten a bit bored of wasting tons of money on all these big/powerful cars and yearn for the light, nimble, simpler cars of the older days. I was going to buy the new M2, then drove the BRZ on a fluke and realized I would have just as much fun in it. Probably more, because I can track it all the time and thrash it around and not worry about maintenance costs. People today often say it's slow, but 20 years ago 205 hp was a monster. Maybe I am a dinosaur, but I think 205hp is plenty for a light car like this.

Totally agree. Fun per dollar per lb (weight) this car is one of the best. Sure there are others but that dollar figure and/or the weight goes up some significantly.

Coming from a faster car to a BRZ is like coming from a modern console to a mini NES just to rediscover what fun really is.

Had a 1995 Eclipse GST with an aftermarket turbo. Previous owner had done that. Was pushing about 300 hp. I still find the BRZ WAY more fun to drive. Even though the Eclipse was a slim low to the ground car...it just felt incredibly...long

coming from an '05 STi. I can drive the BRZ 8/10 most of the time and not get into trouble. With the STi I'm about 4/10-5/10. If want to open it up I would be hitting 90-100. And the steering and clutch is so light on the BRZ! Love it.

2015 Mustang GT w/Performance package. Had it 11 months before I totaled it......wasn't my fault. The BRZ is more fun to drive and handles much better.

Slow car fast came to me years ago when I owned a 1987 Turbo II with 400 RWHP. Sold it soon after and built another RX7, much simpler system, 235RWHP, 2500 pounds. That was one of my favorite cars.

I have a friend who is a serious Rotary fan, I told him the twins are the car Mazda should have built as an RX7, instead of the RX8 that they did.(I have an 05 RX8, love it, not so much on reliability though, same for maintenance)

The easiest way to describe the difference "the RX8 is a chef's knife, the twins are scalpels"

Drove my BRZ today after dailying a 997 (base car) for a couple of months. BRZ feels really slow and like it wants a lightweight flywheel (feel like I need to hold the throttle open for ages to blip for downshifts); still really enjoyed driving the BRZ though. Still think the BRZ has the better driving position, and it feels like it's about half the weight of the Porsche. I prefer the quicker steering rack too, although the 997's got much better steering feel.

Also, the BRZ has better gearing-- it's nice to be able to run through second gear without hitting 70mph. I think the BRZ could be geared even lower (shift to third at 45-50, anyone?), but even where it's at it presents a much more usable proposition.

Interesting to read this as I was seriously considering taking a M2 for a test drive as it's one car I really like .
Drove a new Mustang GT but was happy to get back into my 86 .

Might still test drive one just for comparison but I think the twins are hard to beat for handling and shear driving fun especially when S/C'd
