Made an FRS review

Decided to grab the go pro and make another video. Comments welcome and feel free to check out my other vids. I feel like it was a bit rushed, but I try to just talk off the top of my head with minimal editing, including all the umms and ahhs to make it a bit more authentic.

Nice review. I think you just really need a microphone to improve the audio quality. You're a bit faint over the car and road noise. That's an easy, pretty cheap one that would still be useful even if you just did videos occasionally (clean audio is the really big difference when you look at "professional" videos). Just a simple, cheap lav mic would do.

If you want to really get into it, then you start looking into things like stabilization (like sliders for smooth pans), better cameras (image sharpness, quality, and dynamic range), lenses, etc. Of course, that takes away from valuable car mod money, so... maybe not?

thats the question I keep asking myself. Dump 100s of dollars into doing videos, which might get me more views and more $$$ ?? or keep just keep pushing out more vids?

seems like most of the guys with youtube fame make money just from the sheer amount of content they put out.

Indeed, it's a bit of an investment in both time and some starter money. My neighbour has over 1.7m subscribers (makes Minecraft videos). You need to put out content regularly (daily, weekly, couple times a week), and have reasonably decent production value for it to start pulling in more views, which means more subs, which means even more views, which means some money. People don't come back (much) for great content but poor quality. Similarly, anyone can buy a nice camera, a lens, a tripod, and have great looking videos, but nothing really interesting to say (or at least not enough to say regularly that someone would subscribe to). Need to have a balance of both over the long term, though content is more important to start with.

Much as some people rag on TJ, his videos are well made and well edited (in that vloggy style that is all the rage), even if some people find him annoying. MKBHD is another great example. If you look at his really early stuff, it's pretty average quality technically, but he stuck with it, made interesting content regularly, improved his production quality, and is now just huge. One of the top tech influencers around.

These were sadly not career options when I was their age...

If you want to keep going with it, aim for more content somewhat regularly, and improve quality as you go. You can do things pretty inexpensively these days. Just start with a cheap lav mic for example. You don't "need" a Canon 70D with a 24-103 f4L lens and a Rode directional shotgun mic. Yet. Maybe?
