Look at that engine bay, you'd think if they wanted to sell the car they'd hit it with a pressure washer and a little elbow grease. That 10 Series makes me sad...........

UPDATE: The owner of the car did not want to come down at all on his price, my cousim tried explaining as much as possible to the owner to help understand the actual worth of the car, and unfortantley the owner still wouldnt budge. Hell be putting it up for auction and seeing what he could get for it.

Ya, if they want more for it they need to get it starting with the push button, clean up that disgusting engine bay and prove that it will run for long periods of time to confirm the engine is OK and everything works. They had some weird ass priorities in cleaning up the interior and throwing seat covers on a car that needs to be started by crossing some wires. I am guessing that was all that was within their abilities though and when things got even a little tough they just gave up.

Find out the auction and attend...bid low....

@Tcoat - I agree... But if they can get the car cheap at auction it might be worth it... But I have a feeling someone will bid on it higher then you would think, since they don't have time to look at it or read the story on it.

The owner actually didnt have any idea about the car. He actually hired an electrician to try to get the push to start button to almost work. To get it started you have to physically get out the car and jump the starter. Crazy I know.

Yep anything under maybe $4K may be worth it. Just to many unknowns for my taste. My biggest concern would be what all is blown from the wires being cut and what else may have been done to the engine that just has not shown up yet.

It pays to remember that with a salvage title any part or parts can be missing, exchanged, replaced, rebuilt, or installed after salvaging them from the bottom of the sea, a rainforest, or the siberian desert. This includes odometers! Mileage on a salvage title car can be inferred, but at best it can only be an educated guess regarding accuracy. There is no recourse. This is the ultimate example of "buyer beware".

That's why diligent research is required and getting full doc of actual accident and parts replaced. It's a gamble with salvage title but if you take the right measures it's worth it B is for Build showed it can be done properly.

The problem lies in that so many think it is cheap and easy and it does not get done properly if at all. I bet there are unfinished projects from the 70s that are still passing from person to person as each new guy thinks it will be cheap and easy and then is quickly in over their head.

With the right facility, equipment and know how a salvage can be a great way get a good car for a reasonable dollar or a great way to build a dedicated race car but if you have none of those resources then you are just pouring money down the drain. Back in the day I poured my fair share down the drain until I learned!
