New to Tuning

Hey everybody, I just got my OFT hooked up after I got my Tomei UEL headers installed. I'm using the Stage 2 UEL 91 octane tune for it, I'm new to tuning a vehicle so I just want to make sure its running good and I'm not going to damage my car.

I'm In Canada and I've read that I should be using 93-94 octane as ours is less quality than Americas. I've been filling up with Chevron 94.

My questions are:
Is this what us Canadians should be running? is there specific tunes for us?
What should I be Datalogging to make sure everything is ok?
How long does it take your vehicle to learn the new tune/ fuel trims?
how should i drive to get a good datalog?

I drove very casually with the new tune to try and stay in a closed loop so it can learn for about 15-20mins and then drove normally for about 15 min after. I ran datalogs the full time and seen that my LT fuel trim stays at -10.16 at idle and around -8 to -3 under load. the ST fuel trim stayed pretty balanced the full drive.

Sorry if these kinds of questions have bee answered. I've searched for the last few days to preemptively solve my questions but could really find anything for my Canadian situation

All my mods are: K&n drop in filter, Tomei UEL header, q300 Catback Exhuast, OFT

Fuel trims seem a little high but likey ok

-Is the FLKC supposed to be going crazy into +/- 100 like that?
-The Advance Multiplier(Is this IAM?) is staying at 0, and didn't move the full trip.
-knock correction didn't move the full trip either

Your AFR and LTFT looks OK to me, but I am by no means an expert. @Wayno and @steve99 are the gurus on this forum on tuning/OFT

The car is a 2016 MT scion bought new in July.
I'm using the newest ROM from Openflashes site: Toyota GT86 Off-The-Shelf (OTS) Tune Files (v2.076) UPDATED 3/30/16.

The ZA1J__C roms, stg 2 UEL F40C, 91 octane.

OK, so you have a ZA1JF40C cal id
Google that with FT86 next to it and do some reading
Logging doesn't work on some parameters like mine
Contact Openflash for resolution, good luck because I haven't had any..

Is there any tuning that won't void my warranty and CARB legal? Wish they have something like Ford manufacture release tuning packages.
I have a 2016 FRS RS2 AT with only 1,200 miles on it and dealer gave me 7yr/100k warranty free when I bought the car. So far have installed Injen cold air but afraid to do anything else because of warranty and California emissions.

I think the Injen CAI you have installed could technically already be voiding your warranty. If you do need to make a warranty claim, it may be dependent on your dealer/service technician and how big a stickler they are about aftermarket mods on your car; if they determine that the intake is the cause of whatever problem you run into in the future, you're SOL. If you are truly trying to stay within warranty, you've got to be stock, or use TRD parts.

I guess it's a good thing I kept my stock intake so I can put it back to stock if needed.

Yes, hold on to those stock parts (especially if you are leasing and may decide not to keep the car). Revert to stock if needed.

ECU tunes can be somewhat similar. I know the OFT can easily revert back to stock, but like all things it will depend on whether or not the service technician/dealership bothers to look, or bothers to care.

correct it looks like

IAM FLKC MAF V parameters not working for logging on F40C rom you will need to hassle the oft guys.

looking at KC Learned it looks ok no knock but their no full throttle run.

Try a full throttle run on second or preferably third 2000-7000

LTFT
RPM
load
KC Learned (it works)
throttle
ignition advance

should be able to see if its ok from that.

OK looking at those logs its got a little knock here and their not real bad (be less than stock tune)

the chunky drops in the KC Learned indicate knock like arround 4000-4500

Also the afr (measured is running about 5% richer than commanded AFR this is fine and safe just costs you some power.

It goes rearly rich on initial throttle application so likely needs the load limits corrected again not critical, it will just stop the car bogging if you jump on the throttle at low rpm

the two runs here one has knock and the next doesnt, see how the KC learned curve is pretty smooth in second run , but in first run its all chunky and jagged thats knock, again not super bad.

Maybe try a different brand of fuel some are way better than others.


if its still same I would smooth the ignition timing in those problem areas.
But fix up the fueling by taking about 4 or 5% of the maf flow values that will get your commanded and measured afr on target .

then maybe the load limits.
