Yeah check out C&D's VIR/Lightning Lap. The BRZ was 2+ seconds faster than the Club ND.

True. I think Mazda did a great job making the ND Miata feel quick for an NA low-displacement car.

Toyota/Subaru sort of did the opposite with the 86 coming in somewhat heavier than expected, with an unexpected torque dip in the midrange and longish gearing.

Almost 3 years and two seconds faster by my arithmetic.

And yet we get an freaking amazing gas mileage something Miata doesn't have.

Not a fan of lightning lap. Amateur drivers. Especially would not trust the numbers from different years.

Fairly sure the ND miata is better in that department... but the difference would be so minor that it really depends on the driver/conditions.

Normally I'd agree but the ND Miata actually ran on a slightly faster repaved course. If anything the times are biased/skewed for the ND. Realistically the gap is probably even greater.

I do love the fact when it comes to curves, I see brake lights. I choose my gear and lay into it. I think that's why the BRZ FRS and Miata exist, to tear up roads outside every day driving.

Realistically weather will swing a lap time by greater than 2s even in a single day.

It really should be Fiata, because turbo.

My car is slow. How do I fix it? I'm tired of being beaten by minivans to the next stop light? Should I do a twincharger? My mom and dad have lots of money and they'll pay for it. Also, what wheel spec for rocket bunny? I need wider wheels for the power.

My school of thought for the stock ND Club Spec miata is it is not a car suited to my taste...while the FR-S is almost perfectly is - near apples and oranges differences to me. The stock ND suspension/handling traits are the #1 issue I have with it, its ergonomics/shifter is #2, and the mere fact its a convertible is #3. I appreciate it for what it is, but I would never want to buy an ND after driving one...it is not my idea of an ideal fun car and never will be. Fun is subjective, and the ND just doesn't behave like I want a small lightweight sportscar to...the FR-S however, does everything like I want it to, and feels quicker on its feet (because, in fact, it is...) even though it is a heavier vehicle.

The ND is too soft and squishy...in fact it is the softest and squishiest MX-5 made to date. Would take an NA over an ND, because would have to rework the suspension, seating, shifter, and permanently attach a top to it anyways...and I like the NA looks more. I know I can fit in an NA track car based on driving a SPEC Miata setup for someome my height.

At least weekly we read about somebody here losing the car with stock power and just the nanny turned off. A couple of times a month we read about people crashing their cars on stock power alone. I can not even begin to imagine the carnage that would result if these things came with much more HP than they do. We could probably surpass the Mustang as king of the crash meme!

Why? What do they "need" it for? I can see by the pic in your sig line that perhaps you could want more but why does the car in general "need" more? For every person that tracks or races one of these there are probably 1,000 that just drive it as a car and would be completely unable to deal with even an extra 50HP every time it rained or snowed.

Now, if these were AWD I would totally agree that they would "need" more but they are not and as a RWD there is plenty to get the job done for the majority of the driving public.
The stock power level is pretty horrible to daily in. Passing people on the freeway requires downshifts and driving on an uphill freeway requires practically full throttle. AWD or RWD doesn't matter since these cars have traction control. All I'm saying is this car is pretty painful to drive in stock trim as a DAILY. On the track with a lot of turns, hp doesn't matter as much and it's actually a little more fun to drive with stock power than with more power.
