For most people yeah.
255's would probally be the smallest tire width you could find.
(unless someone dumped thier front tires)

All the tires are super grippy ones. (Minimum UTQG of 140)

And most sets dont last beyond the 2 runs they do.

So if you have the power to spin wide tires.
Hey free rubber is free rubber.

Yeah, to those with a basic FRS/BRZ. That's what I said. Perhaps you just didn't understand what I said.

You think you can go out and spin 265+ width 200TW tires on your sub 200whp FRS/BRZ? Neat.

Tell me how many runs you get before your axle grenades. Better yet, tell me how long you can keep the wheel spinning. Or...even better... You're in WA right? Go to evergreen with those tires mounted on the rear and see how far into the 3/8 bank you can go before the car grips up.

No need to be rude about it, fairly certain he just did not understand what you meant. Even if he did not, you could have made your points without being sarcastic.

Hey guys, haven't posted in here in awhile. Ever sine my unfortunate meeting with a concrete k-rail at last years Final Bout II, I've moved to socal.

I've downsized to 16's with 205/50's since then, also plan on trying out a few different setup tricks to see how I like it. Cant wait to hit some events out here!

Wan't being sarcastic. Being 100% serious.

Wasn't being rude either. Trying to help him paint a mental image so he can understand what is actually being said.

There's a reason every single person in here isn't really running anything bigger than a 215 or 225 width tire.

Chill man... I don't claim to be a drifting expert. You obviously have very strong opinions and that's cool. I didn't say thou shalt use the 18" free tires from Formula Drift did I?

Never said you did.

You mentioned using tires off of professional drift cars that range in the 800hp+ range to use on your FRS. Myself and another mentioned it would be of no use to you or us, because of the type of vehicle we have. You questioned/disagreed/didn't understand what was actually being said. I gave examples in response to paint a picture as to why it wouldn't work.

I would hardly say it was rude. If anything, I was just being blunt.

The fact this is even still being debated, as if feelings were hurt, is actually kind of ridiculous, but whatever.

Do as you please. Best of luck.

That bold part right there makes your comment have a sarcastic smart-ass tone to it.

Not saying you even meant anything by it, but that's what your "lol" at the end of that sentence implies.

It makes us think that this is the thought in your head.
"lol this guy thinks FD tires are useless, what a dumb ass"

You know what he meant by "useless".
We all did.
So if anyone was "creating drama" it was you with that comment.

edit:
So in retrospect...
Be careful what you type. Make damn sure it wont come across different than how you wanted it to be.

Tyler, i know these have fragile axles but i was able to drift my s14 with stock ka on 235 potenza and that was less power than frs. Possible if you have enough speed bit yeah still making it harder with that much grip. Also tried drifting on 255 with 400hp sr in japan and that was a mofo. Weird right? Depends on too many variables maybe. I think higher psi in the 235 was the case.

Anywho...
Philstar!!! What wheels are those?!!!!???? I have been debating on 16 or 17, and recently tried using need for speed to see how 16 inch watanabes look and i love it. Just cant find them in 16x9 with 5x100.
Details please!!!!!!

Yeah. Gearing, suspension setup, tire pressure/compound, alignment etc can all play a role. I started with a KA-T S14 that made low-mid 200s at the wheels. I drifted with tires ranging between 225 to 255 on the rear, and yes the car did fine, though 225s and 235s felt the best.

^This was back in '08. 245/40R18s in back with under 250whp. The fact the car had a Cusco RS 2 way and 4.6 FD really helped though. 3rd gear was a breeze.

I've drifted stock SR and KA cars countless times with similar sized tires. Yes it can be done, but the drivetrain isn't as brittle on those cars as it is on these.

That's the point I was trying to get across. Yes, it can be done, but the chance of snapping an axle is extremely high. Overinflating the rear tires to like 70psi would help, but you run the risk of them blowing.

Furthermore, the fact that the FRS/BRZ runs a boxer engine causes the frame rails to be very wide up front, limited space under the front fenders. That's why you have these cars with these crazy lock kits having like 2" of front wheel poke, it's to clear the frame rails. Downside is it looks absolutely stupid. With that being said though, there's no point in running a 265 width tire in the back when you can't really run anything wider than a 225 on stock fenders.

It's been proven countless times in this thread that for the fast majority of normal guys drifting this car, a small and simple wheel/tire setup is best. 17s, no wider than 9j up front. No more than a 215 or 225 width. This allows the car to easily spin the rear wheels, and not have to worry about rubbing or other clearance issues.

For the people wanting to get a bit more in depth with their build and run high HP, overfenders etc., then that's an entirely different story.

As for Phil's car, the wheels are Watanabe. RS model I believe.
