So, this could just be my shear ignorance on how modern pulleys function... but, are they supposed to stop like this:
This was in neutral. I have no idle issue; it's steady at 650-700. Enlightenment? Thanks! |

Yeah, that makes sense. So the inner portion is still spinning right? I guess I've just never noticed that since the A/C on the engines I look at are deep within the bay.

Long thread, didn't read all of. Just wanted to report mine started doing it today, and I'm right around 1100 miles. Did it three times during the day. Car was warmed up, but while idling it just... dipped... like it wanted to stall or something.

Outer pulley always spins, a magnetic clutch gets the inner portion spinning so you can cool your nickers.

I've seen it on my car and I'm at 640 miles. Has anyone heard back from Toyota or Subaru yet? I'm thinking it's normal since every car is doing it and it might be emissions related.

Got a call back from the dealer with my car today. They said they did what Subaru of America told them to do - "check the angle of the camshaft, and replace the oil control valves" - and they say it's running fine now after putting some miles on it. I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow and we'll see!
(I'm pretty sure that's what the guy on the phone said, but I'm not an engine guy.) |
