Well I look at it like this, that owner bought it from auction and now sees that it is a bigger issue than they probably anticipated. If your cousin is very familiar with wiring and the 86 platform then maybe take a stab at it for 7k. Otherwise I'd say steer clear. And I can't tell from the pictures if it's all keyed still. If it is id definitely stay away.

Never seen such thought out vandalism. Went after each panel and part to make sure the job was done thoroughly to get it totalled.

i would say it had to be someone that had keys to the car... to go all out of the way to get access to the engine bay...don't see any broken windows to get into the cabin to vandalize the seats and dashboard

i'm sticking with my crazy b!tch theory

Depends on what they want the car for. If going to turn it into a dedicated track vehicle may be a good buy. If want and don't care how pretty it is may be OK. If want to get it looking good again probably $5 or $6K in body work and paint and there is still some damage to the interior to take care of.

That engine bay looks like it has been to hell and back even without the vandalism and god only knows what electrical components are burnet out from the harness being slashed and shorted. Somebody was very, VERY pissed when they did all that so god only knows what they poured in the fuel tank or other hidden damage that will not appear until the car is moving and running again. Whoever did all that knew enough about cars to target the wiring harness so who knows what else they have done.

The car was considered a write off by the insurance company so the total estimated repair value was high enough to warrant their action and if anybody wants to put the car back to like new they are going to have to pay some bucks even if they do a lot of the work themselves.

I would not touch that car for over about $4K since there are still many unknowns and even then it may not be worth even that.

It doesn't start and they can't get it to start normally. Period, done, end of assessment.

I'm with tcoat, it's worth <$5k until it starts and operates normally and then it'd be a beater, not 'look at my super nice FRS that I secretly got for chump change and fixed up on my own'

You're looking at $5k-$10k to get that car looking fresh as a daisy and it will never ever be worth what you put into it because it will always carry a salvage/rebuilt title.

But for $5k investment to sort out the powertrain and prep it for street/track/autocross duty, lets go racing.

Oh, I'd recommend that he toss that ad in the trash can and move on to the next one.

As a salvage owner like myself I would rather get one from the auction and then you do the work in restoring the car it seems a lot of work getting that thing back on the road.

Agree with it I know many people here scorn and loathe salvage cars but if you know what your doing and don't take Mickey Mouse shortcuts, do diligent research it's worth spending the money and besides your saving a car from ending up in the graveyard.

I knew it would be a lot to get it fixed up, but you guys shared a lot of information I wasnt thinking of. Glad I can always count on you guys. I laughed when i saw T coats post, just when i was about to read it, I saw how long it was and said to my cousin " listen up, this is the one you want to listen to". Always super informative lol

So the trunk is the only body panel that didn't have a hole punch in it?

I suspect that who ever did that to the car did not want to leave a hole in the trunk that would let air in.
I would LOVE to know the backstory on this!!!

I say pass. All that dirt in the engine bay looks like it was under water.
