Unichip & Perrin 3" CAI - map availability?
Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out a P0171 lean code and have gotten all the way down to... Jack @ Unichip doesn't provide a map for a 3" Perrin CAI. It would've been awesome had they specified that upon point of purchase instead of simply saying "Perrin CAI"... Jack hasn't been active on the forums anymore, and unfortunately, based on my 1 email interaction with him; he's back to his norm of where I saw many bad reviews about him on other forums. Where did the Jack from posts on this forum go??? Anyhow, I want to keep everything set up as is and am hoping to just drop in a different map to get my Perrin 3" CAI working. I don't want to spend any more money with Unichip just to access their maps database just to find out that nothing will work so hoping to get some confirmation from any of you wonderful people on here that have tried to run a large diameter intake with Unichip. Intakes on naturally aspirated 86\brz\frs produce very little power over a drop in filter, but they can cause you a few issues especially where the size of the maf tube is changed like in 3" perrin. my suggestion woul be sell the intake and put the stock one back with a drop in performance filter. I doubt you will get any support for unichip, the flash systems are far superior, unichip gained some popularity in very early days before flash systems cracked the ecu code. Second suggestion would be stick with what you have with unichip or just sell it as well and get a flash tune from someone. |

When Unichip was in development for the 86, Perrin only had their 2.75" intake available.
I'd be very surprised to see any further investment from Unichip, given that flashing has been made so painless and gives an objectively far better result.

yea I thought I was going the right direction, and I think I still am, as far as keeping it simple; I don't care much for creating big horsepower so I think I'll sell this intake, put the stock one back in to ensure that I stop throwing this P0171 lean code, and then drop in the 2.75" Perrin and all will be done. cheers guys! |

One thing I have messed around with a little is to compare AFR results from the untuned dyno runs from this article http://dsportmag.com/the-tech/scion-...ogramed-ecu/2/ with my Weapon R and use the most similar result to see how that tune works. The TRD intake was closest to the Weapon R results and I tried the Unichip map for the TRD intake and it worked really well.
If yoou can find a dyno run WITH A/F ratio, you can compare to the dsport article's intakes and hopefully one of them will be similar and there's a Unichip map for it. It's a long shot, good luck. Choose an intake that runs very lean untuned like the Perrin seems to. What does your LTFT look like after a good long drive? |

Stock intake is well designed. The tune can be optimized because of inefficiencies due to mpg/emissions requirements. Intakes, catbacks are for sound and aesthetics. There is some meat on the bone with cam timing, fuel, advance etc. Amazing stuff
