On my OBD reader & torque, the ROM ID can be found under ECU Information when the OBD reader first 'handshakes' with the ECU.
It was probably hiding in there somewhere.

The ELM327 Bluetooth modules on ebay:

$10 + $2 shipping will read out ECU information including ROM ID with the free torque app.

Could've just called my friend at South Coast Subaru and saved you weeks of trouble.

I actually was planning on taking the car to SCS but upon calling SoA they wouldn't even tow me out of PHS and so I had to use Geico who barely towed me enough to get to Glendale where I bought it. Unfortunately, where I live all routes to freeways are elongated so mileage was a concern for the tow.

I sure as hell wish it was. I'm not sure many could walk a mile in the shoes I've been given recently.

.
I stopped at the Auto parts store for some brake cleaner and did this for you just for shits & grins:
Borrowed their OBD reader, here is the 'special tests' menu, then select Vehicle Information:

Then you select Cal ID:

Then there you have it, your ROM ID:

Took me 5 minutes total and I had never used that model reader before.

Well thank you so much sir! Do you think it will be useful to do once I get the car back?

As an update, I went to the dealer today (first time I was able to get a ride, for those who say use an uber/lyft sorry but I wasn't going to taxi or ride share for 27 miles). They have ordered a new ECU and that should arrive Friday and once installed and according to the service manager "once I've driven your car because I'm going to drive it and drive it and drive it some more before I hand it over to you" I should finally be back in my BRZ. In the interim I was given a 2016 outback to drive and am appreciative of that. Today has been one month since the initial no start event. Unfortunately, despite me trying to pry deeper and find more info he has been conveniently avoiding telling me how he went from telling me my car was modified to not and telling me it could be circuitry related to now just replacing the whole ECU. However I really do not want to poke the bear in the chest at this point. They are going to do everything under warranry and that's a hell of a lot better than when this started so I feel like my best bet to to stop digging trying to figure out what went wrong and if they sold me a modified car and just accept the fix. As for trying to clear my name/my car from the supposed red flag that SoA and PHS put on it I'm not sure what or how I will go about trying to accomplish that but this has been a battle amongst many others in my life recently. That's to say the least. As per usual I appreciate all the help and feedback I've received from those in the forums that took the time to response and read this topic.

Sucks it took so long bro but they are fixing it at no cost and you are in a loaner now. I think that is best case scenario minus the 1 month it took to get there.

100% Agreed. I feel like I am finally getting to the end of the road of this nightmare and feel like I've had to fight tooth and nail for justice but am finally getting it so I am finally feeling like I can breathe with at least some sigh of relief.

Good news that they will fix your car under warranty.

From now on have fun with your car and be carefull with any modifications! Next time they'll not be so good to you ...

great news, i agree get the car back and dont poke the bear :-).

toyota\subaru use the terms ecu and ecm fairly loosely ecm electronic control module and engine control module or electronic control module The car contains many control modules and its possible the ecm\ecu they are refering to may not be the engine module but may the the imobiliser ECM , the key fobs, dash cluster imobiliser and engine ecu all need to talk before car will start, who knows the main thing is its getting sorted .

I never suggested you take the car to South Coast Subaru.

All I suggested was for you to call them. If it is something that they want to warranty and it's a major $$$ item to fix, dealerships can even offer to tow the car to their location as long as they are getting compensated by corporate.

I don't get this whole "I can't pay for a ride to my car" issue. Are you that strapped for cash to not be able to pay ~$30-50 for a ride to your car? If so, I'm not sure making payments on a new car is the right choice for you, nor is tinting the car.

I understand what you're saying. Personally, I don't feel like finances are a 1:1 comparison from one individual to the next. Nonetheless, you are entitled to you opinion and I appreciate the help you've given in the process.

How did the repairs take? Has there been any progress with removing the warranty flag on your Subaru?
