Do you guys get a printout of your vehicle order information when ordering a car? I want to ask for one because I don't trust my dealership LOL.

If you don't trust them now how bad is it going to be once you get the car?
You may want to consider traveling a bit until you find one you do trust.

What do you mean by after I get the car? Going in for service and stuff?

I did think about getting the car at a dealership I trusted even if it was a few hundred more, but everything just went down so fast when i was there and the price was right so..

I'd say if you know your order has been processed then why not go get reassurance? I would look at it as you're spending well over 20k.. They shouldn't even be surprised you want a piece of paper saying that you have an order in

Yep. Service, warranty and any other dealings you have t have with them. If you don't trust them with ordering the car then these other considerations would be down right painful.
Why don't you trust them anyway? Have they done something odd already?

Well actually I have a piece of paper that says our agreed on price, with only my signature on it. I'm talking about one that gives you the order info ie. accessories, trim etc.

I've been to another subaru dealer a week ago and they ordered a car on the spot and I saw VON on the computer screen right away. Now here I've been told they ordered my car for almost a week and I still don't have a VON so it just confuses me.

And @Tcoat, can't warranties, service be done at any other dealership, I just need to get the car from here?

If you don't trust the dealer it's because they didn't give you enough information you were looking for.

Yes you certainly can go to any dealer for service and warranty but it is a very good idea to set up a relationship with one dealer. There are many benefits to being on good terms with a known dealer instead of jumping from one to the other.
So if you ordered a car at another dealer why did you order at the second?
Not trying to give you a hard time I just don't understand what is happening.

Wasn't trying to place an order at the first dealer but instead was just trying to inquire about the 2017 price. So they asked for what I wanted for accessories, color, trim and literally placed an order then I tried to discuss price. We didn't come to an agreement and they said that it's ok since I picked a good color they can just keep the order and sell the car when it comes. Basically I didn't ask them to do it, but it just happened within like 5 minutes of me sitting down.

Is it generally hard to build a relationship with a dealer that you did not purchase from in your experience?

Well that puts a different light on things.
The dealer I would not trust would be the one that sat down and placed an "order" in five minutes and then didn't even care if you followed through. I highly doubt that what they showed you was an actual verification of order since there is not a hope that even the computerized systems of today would have that back so fast. If anything it was simply a reply that the request had been received. An actual VON could take hours, days or even weeks to receive since although the system may be on computers actual people have to verify the info and enter the data and that takes time. Ordering a car (even for a dealer) is not the same as picking something on Ebay, clicking agree and waiting for it to appear in the mail. That car has to be scheduled into the production, made to your requests and then shipped. Since there are over a 100,000 of them shipped world wide this is not a 5 minute exchange.

It is very easy to build a relationship with a GOOD dealer since they will remember you (believe it or not they do) and if you are a good customer then they want to keep you. I am lucky and have a great dealer. How do I know that? well, the average time a salesman has worked there is 15 years. In the car sales business people do not last long at a bad dealer. Bad dealers rip off their staff as much as the customer so good salespeople never last long. You want to find a good dealer then just talk to 3 or 4 sales people and ask how long they have been there. If the majority are under 5 years say thanks and walk away. People get all caught up in price for cars but I would rather spend $500 or $1000 more at a good dealer and know I will be taken care of than save that money and find I was just another quick buck.

They did actually have a "VON number" on the paper though. And that dealer is actually one of the higher rated ones.

I do agree with you though I would rather pay more to have peace of mind but since I already settled my business elsewhere I guess I will just have to stick with it.
