what......the.......

that's hard to understand, you are the first person I have ever heard of having a trans "lock up" on them in 6th gear going 70..........what kind of horsepower are you running? I would love to see how you drive your car just for informational purposes.

Like I said I drive the car to work and back which is about 20 miles round trip always shifting below 3500RPM because there is no power after that unless you go over 6000RPM. Car is 100% stock nothing was added to it. Tomorrow we'll take apart both trannies and I'll take pictures.
Yes I checked the forum and also google for Aisin AZ6 transmission lock up and I couldn't find any.
Well I am the lucky one with 2 trannies.
Drakiv: Let me know if you want to see the trannies tomorrow being opened. You are also in Riverside
Sure it just depends on what time and where, I don't even get off work until 1500 in San Bernardino.

My original tranny is in my garage. I am driving on a spare which makes more noise than my original. They are fragile but I know exactly what I did to mine and yes, it was abuse. Both of my transmissions whine in every gear except fifth. I have been told by an expert that the mid-shaft does not resist axial loads and the support bearings fail. This is what I expect to find when I open mine.

Flat-foot shifting, wheel hop... they don't handle shock at all.

Also I forgot to mentioned, I also have another Scion FRS this is 2014 with only 5000 miles and is making a little noise already. So I will drain the oil and I'll put Motul 300V on it to see if it get better.
I probably will drain oil every 3000 miles at the same time I'll do the engine oil change, just in case.

I have 89,000 miles of heavy use on my 14 and still have the factory oil. All this without a single issue. If you have gone through trannies that fast, in two different cars, it is probably NOT the car's fault.

Not trying to be a jerk, yes people have issues with this transmission but its usually only after they start modding the car into higher Horsepower and Torque values. People have complained about the known tough lockout in 2nd gear when its cold and it tends to go away with a fluid change early on in the transmissions life cycle. But if you have gone through 2 transmissions on 1 car with stock power and are starting to have issues with your other car........I have a feeling it may not be the transmission and may be with the user. I am just sayin', from what you are explaining is not normal. Especially with 2 separate vehicles. With such low mileage, I would hope this is all covered under warranty.

Are you Guys who blame the driver for all the transmission faults being paid by Toyota or Subaru????
I am in my 60s and I always drove stick and I NEVER REPLACED A TRANSMISSION!!!
By the way to all you experts in driving:
Have you red all the complains in this forum about this transmission?????
Let me give you another CLUE. AISIN had the same problems and complaints 10 YEARS AGO with the transmission on the HONDA S2000 and they STILL CAN'T
figure it out. Are you aware of this???? PLEASE BE INFORMED AND READ all the info is in this forum.
You have a thing and it broke, you're upset, please trust me when I say WE ALL UNDERSTAND. Getting pissed off on the internet accomplishes exactly nothing except makes people want to not help you.

We all read these forums, and we know a lot of members have also had transmission problems, whether true manufacturer defects or from honest abuse, as well as some uninstalling a big turbo kit to try to get a fraudulent warranty claim.

All we are saying, is typically anyone who claims "Car is stock! I was just driving along and never shift over 3500rpm EVER!" Are often full to the hilt with BS. Not all, but a lot. You may be 100% telling the truth, but its a hard story to swallow. ESPECIALLY since you are saying you have TWO ruined trannies with a THIRD potentially on its way out on two separate cars with combined less than 25k miles. Statistically you're on another level since these cars are apparently treated so delicately.

As much as you believe your experience echoes everyone's, there is still the vast majority of users who have experienced nothing like this, many with much much harder use and many many more miles. Personally I have 25k miles and lots of track days, I drive rather hard daily and my transmission hasn't had a single hiccup. The community here only represents a fraction of all 86 owners. When people are happy they typicall share it with a few. When people are upset, they complain and want to tell everyone they can.
