@humfrz, I think the mental image as a result of that last post may be more than most of us can handle. I have to go wash my eyes now...

I know that many feel this is a track based forum but I still chuckle as soon as the whole "but on the track..." thing starts. I have no idea what the percentage of time on a track (these cars that actually see one ever) but bet there are so many zeros between the decimal point and the number it is silly. On the street all the HP and goodies of the SS or GT are wasted most of the time no matter how good the driver is. The 86 has the advantage of it can actually use 80% of it's abilities instead of about 15% (there is a valid reason for all the Mustang crashing memes). The bloody thing was built to entertain and engage the driver in a different way than the Pony Cars and it does that very well. People that want Pony Car performance and style of driving should have bought one.

Now as far as the whole "put this that or the other engine in it" thing goes that is a whole different story. Those engine swapped, reinforced, huge wheeled, heavily modified Frankenstein's that are getting Pony Car drag times are NOT fucking FRSs or BRZs! They are basic components of them yes but they no longer should be called the name. The minute that engine comes out and everything is swapped to support the "upgrade" it is now just a Twin shell on a whole new platform.

I love my car but am under no illusions that it will ever EVER compete with the likes of top trim Camaros and Mustangs driven by another driver with the same level of skill that I have. It wasn't meant to compete with them from the start and anybody that thinks it was needs to wake up.
Hmmmm! Interesting, have you driven a V8 swapped twin?,....I have, everything good about the car and the reasons that I bought it in the first place became that much better, like 3.7 Liters and 200 crank horsepower better (stock LS1 Sans headers and CAI, but oh the possibilities)...and no it doesnt handle any better or any worse but almost exactly, if not exactly the same.....total drive train weight gain for me was right around 100lbs..most of the weight gain is from the heavy Tremec compared to the Aisen which actually sits pretty far back neutralizing the added weight, same weight bias confirmed by scales......re-enforcement for upgrades....really?..you mean like the 20 lb lighter one piece aluminum driveshaft compared to the two piece metal anchor one?..Speaking of anchors, do you know how much the FA20 weighs? not much goodness going on with that much of a weight penalty to me
......was it wise to spend the time and money for the swap when you could just buy a vette or camaro or stang and be just like everybody else,...another sheep....probably not, but then again Im not a sheep and I love this platform.....now as far as street racing I dont do it, but I use to have punks all the time revving me at stop lights......that doesnt seem to be an issue anymore, my catless exhaust and long tube headers seem to pop a lot approaching stop lights, and sitting next to me you can definitely hear my LS1.

I am not saying don't do that if that is what you are after simply that it is no longer an 86 and there is no way it can be. You still running all stock parts other than the driveshaft? I doubt it.

Not a school bus

Not a FRS

All very cool in their own right but most certainly no longer what they started as.

And sure everybody that pulls up beside you knows what an LS1 sounds like and are scared to death.

How many of these threads are there???????

I would highly suggest taking your car to a venue where you can actually experience it's virtues. Afterwards, if you are still hung up on stoplight racing then buy either a different car or a big ass turbo. Either way you're missing out on the magic.

You should give up your driver's licence and re-apply after you grow up.

Can we ease up on the personal attacks against OP? We may disagree with a goal of beating Camaros on the street but let's stick to debating the idea not slamming the person! He has been a pretty good sport actually.

Let me be the voice of dissent here and say that OPs reasons are his own, and it's OK to want to be a badass at the stop light (as long as you're not doing anything reckless or irresponsible). If he wants to mod his car for massive WHP, I think that's just fine. Maybe it's the "wrong" base to do that with, but what if he just loves the looks and handling as a canvas? If he wants to dump money into a project car for acceleration and top speed, it's not my taste, but it's not my car, either.

After a weeks worth of reading endless topics I feel more than confident enough to do almost anything to my car (2014 FRS Monogram Edition). But my main goal is to stay competitive (performance wise) with the new 2017 Camaro SS. So the question I have is how many WHP do I need to just keep up with one. I don't want to blow it out the water, I just want a tight race.

I know they are 455HP at the crank, however I believe they are 1000 more pounds than our cars. I know I will be going turbo for my choice of force induction, however I would like a reasonable number to achieve my goal.

Once again I appreciate this site and it's endless knowledge it provides. I look forward in being a part of the community. Thanks.
There is another fallacy to your reasoning. You think that your heavily modified car will be beating a new 2017 stock Camaro SS. You might achieve this with a lot of money and a lot of compromises. But, what if the Camaro is also modified? GAME OVER.

So, follow the suggestions of the wise guys over here and stay away of this crap.

Yes Mr.Tcoat it is,..very much a FRS/BRZ/GT86, it drives and handles and has every attribute the car had stock, only more power and it shifts better......your examples are inane and over the top to make a point,.....Im surprised you didnt use a NASCAR Camry too....
