Ecu eating ECUTek licenses

Hi folks,

Trying to help out a friend put an ECUTek tune into his recently modded turbo 86.

I have a "dealer" cable and dongle but each time I try to load the tune, his ecu eats a license and I have to ask London for a new one.

Went to Toyota and they said a new ECU is required to revert back to stock...seems a little odd to me...

Friend doesn't know if current tune if OFT or something else. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

Thanks in advance

PS- this has happened before with NA cars as well. Ended up just not putting ECUTek tunes into their cars.

The ecutek licience is assigned to your dongle then on first flash of ecu the ecutek software will embed the licience info in the rom\tune to be flashed to car. Usually the failre is caused by incomplete flash of ecu. Each time you flash the previous flash is erased first including ecutek licience info, so if subsequent (or first) ecu flash fails to complete ecutec licience is lost.

If you can flash ecus with other systems ok like tactrix or oft then it likely your ecutek cable\dongle is faulty, or something weird with your laptop that causing flash to fail mid way through.

other main cause is bad connection to obd port or low battery volts in vehicle being flashed, flash voltage is supplied by vehicle battery not the flashing device

If you can talk to ecu with tactrix you can flash a stock rom back to car thats 100% stock.

once you have flashed with ecutek their will be embedded licience info in rom in car even the ecutek "stock" roms but this licience info does not effect operation of car or ability to flash or log with other tune systems or dealer tools as long as the rom flashed with ecutek does not have recerom patchs added ie is "stock" firmware
