On the plus side not a single shifting issue (even when -20 out), engine hasn't blown up and can make the crickets come and go at will just by picking where I get gas.

Not so plus is that there is a huge chunk missing out of the plastic splash pan under the rad (no idea when it happened) and the front bumper looks like it tangled with an IED. May be due for a repaint next spring if I decide to keep it longer than my normal 5 years.
Yikes. No tranny or rear diff fluid change?

Well now Hum since the MT fluid does not show a change anyplace on the maintenance schedule and I have had zero issues I figure I will let it ride until I either start having a problem shifting or just get nervous about how old it is. I tend to live by the philosophy that if it is working fine leave it the hell alone.

Both of mine had a lot of metal shavings in them when I changed the fluids at 15000 miles

Nope. And yet I am one of the very small minority that has never had a complaint about hard shifts.

My diff plug was covered in junk.

The transmission fluid itself looked alright, but I actually changed the diff two times after seeing the diff plug. So.... I am definitely overprotective, but the second swap was clean and clear. Transmission shifts better too, but two fluid swaps in 30K miles was pricey, lol.

I am getting the diff oil changed at my 100K service (mid October at this rate) since it won't give me any indicators that a problem is developing like the tranny would.

I only did it because I saw a pic of someone who had and their diff plug was covered in debris. Lo and behold, mine was at least as bad, lol. Ignorance is bliss.

Pretty sure it was like $25 for me... what do you consider pricey?

I did two diff fluid swaps with motul 300. Plus the trans swap. Preventatively, not much $$. Fluid wise, motul is expensive. lol.

Oh hey, is this where I go to post a random thought, or should I just go make a new thread?

I am wondering why so many complain about hard shifts. I remember it was hard to shift in 2nd gear, but after the transmission break-in period issue disappeared!

Make a new thread and then get really mad at me when I link to where the preexisting thread on the subject is.

I figured that would bring back a debate .....

I'll betcha a survey would show that the folks that have (had) MT problems, have changed the transmission fluid at least once......

Yep, I agree, as they say down south here "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Back-on-the-farm, we had this old 1937, steel wheeled, Oliver tractor. I asked my father one day if I should change the transmission/differential oil.

He said ..... NO. I said I can't remember granddad or you changing the oil in it. He said nope, I never have. I ask why not. He said his father never did .............and the tractor runs just fine. Leave it be.

He said, now get out there and keep hand hoeing the foxtail out of the corn field ....... and quit trying to find a shade tree job!

Create two threads for the same topic in two different forum sections, and then let Tcoat link them to one another.
