How do you like your steering wheel as opposed to stock? I want one, but a bit too timid about changing airbags and explosives! (Wouldn't want Scion still there).

In a million years I never would have picked that color off a wall, but dead gorgeous on your car. Congrats

Thanks man appreciate that! Now as far as the steering wheel, it's pretty straight forward, a lot easier then you would think. Airbag swap literally takes a few minutes, it's just 4 nuts holding the bomb in place and quick swap over to new airbag. Just disconnect battery ahead of time and your good to go! Lastly, steering wheel over stock feels great man, it's a lot thicker when in your hands. Overall excellent feel would highly recommend it.

I've heard that Japan has a single stage bomb while USDM has a dual stage bomb. Did you swap those? Is that not true? It's slightly possible I've been reading The Onion again today.

Also, did you then sell your old one?

Yes that's true. You would need to swap out the usdm bomb for the Japan one, which is literally just 4 screws on the back. Pulls right out and drops right into the gt86 airbag and then bolts back up with the four screws. Airbag replacement if leaving steering wheel on, with bomb swap etc, literally matter of minutes. Whole steering wheel swap, takes a little longer only due to having to remove cruise control stalk and other small various parts. Everything drops back into new steering wheel though, so it's easy just swapping parts over.

Let's not use the term "bomb" when referring to airbags please. It is an explosive charge yes. Bomb it be not.
The charge is very precisely controlled and is about the size of the average person's thumb. It is the expanding gasses from the charge that deeply the bags not the actual explosive energy which is disapated to the rear of the charge.
Yes there are a few differences between the two different systems but there are ways to adapt each to the other. In reality though this is probably one of the worst possible value to cost mods that you can do and you would really need to hate that Scion logo to go to the trouble and expense required to swap an airbag.
