We'll see.

One thing I'll say for the Abarths- they do sound good.

Saw that Car and Driver's instrumented test of the 124 Abarth is up. Surprised that with a few more hp and a lot more torque, it's slower than the Miata (and BRZ/FR-S for that matter).

I think the current definition according to youtube commentators is anything that can't beat a V6 Camry in a straight line. So no - just means they're all slow

I guess I just wish this car was more raw from the factory. Shoot, they even said that the car doesn't sound as good as an Abarth 500
Exactly. $30,000+ for the Abarth w/ almost identical specs to the 86/BRZ, meanwhile the 17 BRZ will start at around $25,000. That's a grand canyon of a difference if you ask me.

Well, it's about what I expected, though I thought the turbo lag wouldn't be as bad and it would be more competitive in acceleration figures.

I'm more surprised at the price tag. $37,800 is well out of the "cheap sports car" category. I realize it's as optioned as you can get it, but I'm not convinced the value is there.

Thought this would be a hands-down win for the Abarth. Everyone complained about the lack of a turbocharged engine in the Miata, but now that it's here, there are issues with turbo lag, lack of top-end pull and responsiveness.

Wonder if it would have been the same story had Subaru thrown the WRX engine in the Twins.

I like the way the Abarth looks in that color combo (minus the black hood). In the pictures the extra length helps make the car look sleeker compared to the stubby Miata. I agree with Jurnecka that the ideal combo might be Fiat chassis + Miata engine.

Great article. What's so fascinating to me is the price difference from our beloved twins, considering we have a LSD in the base model (though it is the only model as we know :P).
What really intrigues me about the new Miata compared to our twins is the convertible factor. I love convertibles! But I don't know if I'd pay more for the drop top and lose the LSD. If they were the same price I would've had a LOT more thinking to do!

I agree. How much is a 370z?! O_o

Not that it's as nimble as Fiat might be. But I'd think it's a lot more car for the money!
