Did you have one with the Proceed controller, or just a WOT switch? I'm curious, because I've been considering one of these myself.

EDIT: I'm starting to lean towards an Edelbrock Supercharger, based on what I'm getting in responses and what I've read about it. Only concern would be the lack of CARB approval (which it will receive soon hopefully).

I have the ESC kit its pretty good for the price - used. Not sure about full price of 2100 + tune. Also dont need any supporting mods other than a tune. Gives a modest 40hp and 70lb tq maybe a bit more on e85. I have ran 13.8 @ 101 on mine. Makes 4-5 psi. About 230whp/200wtq...mathematically calculated based on 2950lbs race weight and 101 trap speed.

You have over a minute of continuous boost which is alot unless your on a race track. Charges at 8:1 rate. AutoX and drag racing no issues at all.

But you can't buy it so irrelevant really. My tuner tells me the way to go is Edelbrock or Harrop these days if you must have a SC over turbo.

I agree it leaves you wanting more but a dull feeling? Not me. My car is just as strong as it was NA before the ESC (After I was retuned and of course rescaled the MAF the ESC threw it off 10%). I think you had a tuning issue. Again you cant buy it. Its essentially a non existent product. So move on lol.

Stevo's calcs are correct. My Phantom ESC dyno's 223/207 on a hot/humid day last year. It's been great for me and I'll give just about anyone in So Cal a demo ride if you're willing to come to O.C. It doesn't fit everyone's use case, but probably fits more than some think. Also, the install is clean and uncluttered, the engine bay looks nearly stock except for the snail. Easily the fewest parts of any F.I. Kit.

All the big name SCs are great and will give you what you want(unless you want a blowoff valve as screw types lie edelbrock don't have) so pick whichever is cheapest/looks best/whatever. My tuner prefers the edelbrock but power wise they are all about the same. Edelbrock may be a little simpler install as there are fewer pieces

If you're able to, see if there's any Facebook groups for the 86 around your area...join the group then see what people are running....ask about ride alongs I'm sure people will be accommodating.

I have them Jackson kit on my car. No complaints. Highway fuel efficiency is at 32+mpg when doing around 70-75mph.

I considered Edelbrock in the past but went with Jackson as it had already passed Carb...read through the forums and it's generally a problem free system. Cost was also cheaper.

The noise the system makes is pretty cool too. I have heard the innovate/sprintex whine....it was cool but wasn't for me. The Jackson makes all sorts of cool noises (jet engine/turbine noises, whooshing, and that pssshhh sounds)..when you get on it....it's quiet when you're not romping on the throttle....the car sounds different than stock.

Best thing to do is to see if you can get a ride along/test drive if possible. Then you can find out which system you prefer based on it.

Hello, FT86 forums. This is my first post as I've been lurking for a pretty long time now. I've been researching a lot about FI and have decided that I want to upgrade my FRS with a supercharger. I've had my FRS for two years now and I love the handling & responsiveness of the car, but I dislike how it lacks in power.

This is my daily driver car and I don't plan on taking it to any tracks frequently or anything. The first half of my commute consists of driving through winding back roads and then the second half is driving on the freeway. As for my driving habits, I usually like hitting 4-5K RPMs when driving out of city when I take off, very infrequently 6-7K RPMs

After reading the stickied FI threads and the DYNO comparisons, I've narrowed the choices down to four superchargers (which are CARB legal; since I live in California this is a must):

Jackson Racing Supercharger: JRSC seems reliable, but I know I won't always be hitting the higher RPMs all the time, so I don't know how worthwhile this will be.
- centrifugal, so the real boost will only be at higher RPMs
- easy to install
- very clean track record; of all the post I have read, it seems like most people who have purchased a JRSC have not had many problems with them
- generally agreed that this is the "ugliest" supercharger

Vortech Supercharger: I would prefer Vortech over JRSC but it costs much more than the JRSC (I'd need to purchase the CARB-legal tune) so I do not know if it would be worth the premium cost.
- like the Jackson Racing supercharger, has a boost at higher RPMs
- better low-RPM power than the JRSC and eventually passes the JRSC in terms of HP boost around 7000 RPM

Innovate / Sprintex Supercharger: Innovate could have been a nice choice, but I'm not sure where I would be able to find a vendor. I also don't know how negatively it could affect my gas mileage. The Sprintex would not work because it is not CARB-approved.
- early boost at low RPMs
- Innovate is now discontinued and is sold under Sprintex, but without the CARB approval
- also appears to be quite popular
- may negatively affect city MPG since boost comes at low RPMs

Phantom Electric Supercharger: The Phantom ESC looks the least risky because it is cheap, but I know the least about it because I find that there is much less information about them than the other superchargers. If there are owners of this ESC then please fill me in on the details!
- non-parasitic boost
- easy to install and "beginner" friendly due to its less mechanically-complicated design and low price
- acts slightly different than the other FI choices?

I have not looked into the Edelbrock Supercharger as much because I do not know if or when it would be receiving a CARB approval anytime soon.

Which supercharger would be the best choice for me? I'd like people who know more about these superchargers to chime in about their boost characteristics, gas mileage, reliability, etc.

Also, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the information above!

EDIT: I'm starting to lean towards an Edelbrock Supercharger, based on what I'm getting in responses and what I've read about it. Only concern would be the lack of CARB approval (which it will receive soon hopefully).
The Edelbrock supercharger is CARB legal.

Thanks to everybody. I can't give thanks out since I just made my account (at least I think that's why) but from what I'm getting from everybody, and since it actually is CARB legal, it looks like I'll be getting an Edelbrock SC sometime in the future.

When you're ready, let us know. We include a free D-box (smooths out the power delivery and gives you a bit more power; plug and play) with every Edelbrock order.

Compared to other SC installs, the Edelbrock is one of the most involved as it requires removing the intake manifold. That being said, it is also one of the most refined SC kits out there.

Well that's just inaccurate. The Innovate and Cosworth kits both replace the intake manifold

He's got you there. I've never installed a SC(or owned one) but the screw types seemed much easier to install since they don't have the intercooler piping to route. Not that it would be difficult to run pipes but removing the intake manifold seems like it would be pretty simple
