you don't need to drill into your bumper, see my post here how the license is mounted upside down by the dealer

Didn't read the whole thread, but in case it wasn't answered, NO, it won't overheat. I have my front plate in the middle of the grille, and did a trackday in 95 degree heat and the car stayed cool as a cucumber through a 20 minute session. Or should I say, the ENGINE stayed nice and cool....I was sweating like a pig.

EDIT: my engine is totally stock, so if you're running F/I then I have no experience, but I'd bet that it'd still be fine.

This^^

I already drive edgy enough. I don't need to give the cops in front of me a reason to pull me over

I've gone back and forth... I have a plate relocation kit so I was originally using that, but I have been running without a plate for the last two months...

When it's all said and done I might just settle somewhere in the middle and drill into the grill to mount...

as if it wasn't said enough by now...no, it shouldn't bother the engine temps haha. i've been running mine ziptied to the grille for almost two years now and haven't had a problem. i use the ziptie method so i can take it off quick and easy when i take pictures or go to meets.

I've never seen one FRS with its front plates mounted properly from the dealers around TO for years even before you posted that, not even DVNT which is Japanese owned lol!

That magnetic mount thing works. I just installed it on my frs and it hasnt moved since. Just purchase those really strong rare earth magnets and line them up correctly.

I refuse to keep a front plate on for heat related reasons and have not had any issues with law enforcement in the past 4 years. Drive by and stop next to law enforcement vehicles nearly every single day. Putting the front plate in that grill location will raise oil temperature ~10 degrees F at interstate cruise speed...was seeing 230-232 F continuous oil temp with the front plate tie wrapped to the grille.

Normal summer daily oil temps are around 221-224F with no plate for my FR-S. Push on the car a little bit (literally a matter of seconds) and it reaches 230+F oil temps quickly. I've seen around 244 F with the front plate on, which was also the start of the heat issues. My FR-S has ignition coil issue when it gets hot...I want it running as cool as possible, so no front plate and vents in the hood. You know the engine bay is retaining lots of heat when the clutch fluid has to be bled twice as often as the brake fluid.

I wish the no front plate ordinance would eventually pass, then it would be a non-issue for everyone to run less front plates...

Interesting observation.

I'm surprised Toyota didn't think of the plate placement and compensate for it .....

When I got pulled over for no front plate, the cops reasoning behind it was due to traffic cameras.

Yes, considering 100% of cars in Japan run a front plate.

I've had a center grill mounted plate since day 1(mid July 2012) because it came like that from the dealer.
I never actually put the plate on though I used this one instead.
No heat issues or cop issues in 4 years regarding the front plate(I live in the central valley in CA).
Only issue I had was the hard decline in my team the last couple years hahaha
