Wouldn't removing cats also reduce CO2 output as they convert CO to CO2?

Gutting them just increases the levels of the stuff that gives you diseases.

Also, as the cited article says, overall increased CO2 is bad, but I suspect many will only read the title of the first few paragraphs and miss the point.

As a result, whilst the increasing CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere may be beneficial to plants in the short term, it still remains the major contributor to rapid climate change. Increased CO2 = decreased Ph levels in the ocean (ocean acidification)
Ocean acidification means Corals die off.
Corals die off, copepods & amphipods have no place to live.
Small fish die, large fish die, the ocean food chain collapses.
Ocean food chain collapses, the rest of the animals on the planet die.

So if you want no animals, just keep increasing CO2 levels.
The land plants will love it, ocean life, not so much.

One of the interesting things I have read is that the tundra perma-frost is melting which will lead to a metric shitload* of methane being released which is a "better" greenhouse gas than CO2.

*I don't know the conversion rate for metric shitload to imperial shitload.
