I'll shoot my own thoughts in: Though I agree that this may just be a fad that will most likely last a month tops (longer if Nintendo decides to fix some serious issues and add more features in), for a game that is indeed mainly about collecting Pokemon, it is strangely addictive, and this is coming from someone who hasn't even watched or played anything Pokemon related in years.

It's a great tool for getting people out of the house once. Your experience may vary. Mine just happened to be because of other people playing it and even going as far as to even going on Pokemon safaris in empty parking lots, and me getting sucked into it.

It is actually possible to battle people in gyms, but not outside of them... yet, hopefully.

However I myself am not without criticism of the game: I understand this is ultimately a free mobile app and as such will require microtransactions, but only making Pokecoins available by spending real-world money is just absurd.

KRS, I don't think Nintendo is touching this game at all. They gave it their blessing but they are probably not in charge of changes. You can get pokecoins if you station pokemon at gyms.
