The car is still new-ish so I would be surprised if this was the issue but a bad bushing somewhere would account for it bewing lined up on the rack and yet start pulling to one side or the other shortly after you leave the shop. My 350Z had just such a thing happen because of two lower control arm bushings that were shot. No properly-aligned car should pull to one side or the other.

Ok. I don't wanna derail the thread anymore, haha. I'm going back to the dealership because it's still under their warranty.

Would there be any value in asking the dealer for a drive of one of their other cars to compare?

My first experience was with a salesman who basically trashed the 86 and said that i was far better off with a SUBARU WRX, In suprise/shock I left that dealership ASAP. I decided not to be put off and a few days later try another dealer. After speaking to a few more sales people at the next dealer I was bemused by the lack of enthusiasm the salesmen had for the car. I'm from a sales background which didn't help my judgement of their non existent sales technique. After a few half assed question they asked If i would like to take it for a test drive. I said yes and off we went, sales man drove it gently till it warmed up and parked it on the side of a back street so we could swap.
I stalled the 86 on my first take off, i hadn't driven a sports since the s14 200sx back in the day (before that had a couple of years driving a nissan 240z). So it took a few ks to get used to the gearbox and clutch and once i was familiar it was very easy. |

My first (and only) time driving an FR-S was before they were released when Scion was doing their test driving marketing tour. Close friend told me it was going on a bit late in the day, so I was only able to arrive in time to do one lap around a lazily laid out cone course; sort of like autocross (no slaloms or U-turns though). It had been raining all day, and it was still coming down lightly at the time. All the cars were automatics and the Traction control was forced to stay on.
So take it all into account: Wet slow speed cone course, automatics, TCS on...never made it out of second gear. Not a very good way to introduce yourself to the car. Could still tell the car had great steering, and to this day, I don't understand the whining about torque...drive an '85 Corolla GT-S as your daily for 6 years, then come whining about that car having "no torque". My time will come soon though. Think I'll finally have my finances all aligned by the time the refresh hits. After the drive though, the crew were nice enough to allow me to take some pictures of their red/black FR-S next to my "bloody" panda hatch. ![]() ![]() Hard to believe that was already 4 years ago. First picture says "LP Field", lol! Its Nissan Stadium now. |

I can hardly recall my first test drive but I'll try.
Basically it all steered when the trifecta of hail storms hit Calgary,ab August 7 2014!! At the time I had a lightly modded Jetta, and well after that storm every panel was dented with golf ball sized hail. (Complete write off). So I took the cash from the insurance company to take the car away!!! Then begins the next chapter in my car enthusiast life! The wife actually started researching cars and said we should go look at one. I said sure I mean my buddy had a modded tc that looked pretty nice. So we went to the dealership on a Saturday and first thing she said was I want to see an frs! I was admiring the showroom model!$47,000 can't even remember what was on it but I wanted it bad haha! So they bring a sale guy over and he asks auto or Standard, of course I said standard! So he brings around this WRB with all the dealers logos and stuff on it (completely clashed byw) I had worked right across the street for 2 years before this so I knew all the roads and corners pretty good. So at the lights I take the yield right and it's about 300m straight away then a slight hill down to the left to merge onto the highway. Once I hit that gas pedal and started hammering through the gears I immediately had the biggest grin on my face (the kind that makes your face sore haha) I took it for a quick merge on the highway turn around and merge off the highway as it had less than 1/4 of gas, ridiculous! Needless to say before we did all this I told the wife "DONT let me buy anything not today"! Welllllp before I knew what was happening I bought a used 2013 whiteout with 15,000km on her! |

I think it's friggin' cool that you actually painted your white Corolla red/black to match the Twin just for that event.

I went to test drive a 2013 FR-S last year. I'd been reading this forum, but not driven one yet. I had to pull onto a fairly busy road to exit the dealership and having seen comments about the bite point of the clutch being high, i did a few lifts of the clutch while coasting to the exit. The dealer looked at me oddly and asked if i'd driven a standard before. I found my gap in traffic and peeled out onto the main road. "Sure", replied. "It's RWD that i have no experience of though...". A slight lie, but the chap was fairly quiet for the rest of the ride.

Thanks for all the great reading.
Other than vicariously through you folks and YouTube, my first test drive occurred the day I picked it up from the dealer (though I'd sat in one to make sure there weren't any dealbreaker issues). I had no reason to buy a new car. I was driving a black, lowered '08 Accord Coupe EXL V6 with HFP lip kit, billet grilles, blah blah blah. Every third fill up, someone struck up a conv about the car. But the twins had been on my peripheral radar (Radar spelled backwards is Radar, because Radar) for a few years, and something triggered my 'slightly past midlife crisis' need for a really special ride. I wanted a black AT (dons halon suit while typing). The Brampton Ontario one sold the day I discovered it in AutoTrader. Another had just landed in Quebec. One would arrive in Canada in six weeks, and the next was scheduled for build and would arrive in three months. Slim pickin's. The Quebec car wasn't spoken for, and is now in my driveway. And this is the first time I took it up the ass on a trade-in and didn't mind. Something funny though - it took me about a month to get used to the car, in a way I can't describe. Maybe it was just the size (but what's odd is that I feel it's bigger inside than it's exterior suggests). It came alive with the paddles and the exhaust. Red light? Who cares! More running down and up through the gears and hearing those lovely sounds. This is a car you can squirt through traffic without breaking any highway traffic act speed or other laws, and still feel like you're (almost) racing. And this BRZ made my Accord Coupe, as head turning as it was, feel like a heavy, fwd, numbass. Did I mention that, even keeping rpm's in a useful range, this thing gets incredible mileage? Thank you guys for steering me right! |

Yup! Painted over its pristine all original white paint that was extremely well kept by the original owners of 26 years. Then painted it back to white and changed it into a coupe instead of a hatch for teh lewlz. Also went against the grain and SR-5 swapped it from being a GT-S. Everyone else does it the other way around. Pshhh. SOHC Carb is the real mans way.

My Story:
Test drive: Took out a 6AT Argento first, this car lived up to each and every expectation I had of the FR-S. The paddles were a blast and I was smiling. Next up, a 6MT Ultramarine. My mind was blown, everything I felt while driving the AT was amplified exponentially. This, in my opinion, was how the FR-S was meant to be enjoyed... what a great day (all planned by the incredible Miss V* <3) The Purchase: Speechless and crying, a dream came true. Thinking I was going out for dinner, we ended up at a dealership to show one of our closest friends my dream car. We pulled onto the lot and there was a 2015 Firestorm 6MT FR-S, I was a child pointing out the window screaming "look, look! That's my car!!". Miss V had disappeared to find my oldest friend (who works at the dealership) as I hesitantly pose for pictures in front of the car. Miss V found my friend, they're approaching and asking if I want to sit in it. There was a sold sign hanging from the mirror so I responded "I can't sit in someone else's car", but they convince me to loosen up. I reach my hand out to my friend (Salesperson) but it is Miss V who hands me the keys, she states "It's yours". I break down and embrace her, crying in her arms a manage to mutter out "thank you". *The sssmoking hot (hotter than Hot Lava) women I belong to ;-)
